Re: Oscar Pistorius
Wild - just heard it on NPR news. Apparently there was a bit of domestic violence history according to the article. I guess Nike just cannot keep their stars out of trouble

Re: Oscar Pistorius
I predicted this would happen back in August 2011.
Ok, not really.
Clearly it's murder. My Bloody Valentine.

From what I've read, doesn't sound like he has a leg to stand on.

I wonder if they'll start looking into his carbon footprint too... ?

A little too early for jokes. A woman has died.

I don't think anyone here knew her personally, or Oscar... people die every day. If it were someone that someone here had some relationship with, I doubt seriously anyone would crack a joke. For a few days.@Ben Z wrote:A little too early for jokes. A woman has died.

Looks like he's going to be charged with premediated. That's more serious than a heat of the moment shooting.

For all the publicity, tv, interviews, etc. We just don't know any athlete or celeb. Rumors of prior domestic violence are now surfacing. Sad, sad story.

And to think that he seemed like such a decent guy in all of the interviews during the Olympics...

If this story is at all true, this guy is in prison for life.

I watched some of the Millrose Games and their was a paraolympic runner in the 60 m dash. It brought attention to Oscar and both Ato Boldin and Louis Johnson were without words as they didn't see it coming either. They were stunned like the rest of us. the para olympic runner, Browne?, was very cool as he was testing out a new blade and the winner of the race, Doc Patton, was in awe when they talked to them both - it was quite cool.
Re: Oscar Pistorius
Based on some of the recent articles, I'm making a bold prediction now: He gets acquitted.
Sounds like sloppy police work, witnesses with holes in their story, and a rushed prosecution. OJ Part 2 is coming.

The big difference is that we know Oscar killed her. Of that, there is no doubt. Even if it's not murder it's at least a manslaughter charge. He fired the gun and took a life, wrongfully.

I won't pretend to know South Africa's criminal code. I would guess, however, that you're allowed to shoot a burglar in your own home. I also don't know if in SA you can bring one charge but then be convicted of another (i.e. bring a first degree murder charge but then have the jury convict of manslaughter) or if the prosecution must bring the specific charge for conviction.
As I read more I'll see if I can clarify.
Re: Oscar Pistorius
Wouldn't you think that the SA code would be similar to ours in many respects since it was also based on the English (as in Great Britain) system?
Re: Oscar Pistorius
At one level, his story is pathetic. He shot her multiple times through the bathroom door. Because he thought she was an intruder (who, I guess, was taking a shit). Right.
On the flip side, it appears a key piece of evidence comes from witnesses who heard them arguing that night. From 650 yards away. Right.
It's going to be bizarre.

It will be sad if he does...I still can't believe this story.

Oh, Dave-O, I think you are so right after what I heard this morning on NPR regarding the bail hearing - crooked cops and all. Is Johnny Cochrane sending out signals from the grave??
Re: Oscar Pistorius
Apparently, the lead investigator is also facing attempted murder charges. So, there is a new lead investigator, supposedly the top investigator in South Africa.
You can't make this crap up. Well, you could, but nobody would believe it.

Re: Oscar Pistorius
The whole thing sounds bungled! I guess we'll just have to wait for testimony to find out supposedly what really might have happened that night from possibly credible witnesses who may have witnessed something. Sheesh!
Pacers had an awesome game last night against the Knicks....just thought I'd mention it!!

The prosecution has really failed to put their best foot forward.

Sadly I also think he's going to get acquitted. But I hope I'm wrong.
