Compression Socks are so 2010? Empty Compression Socks are so 2010?

Post  Kenny B. Wed Nov 07, 2012 8:34 am

I was a big advocate of wearing compression socks on runs back in 2010, but after a full year of not wearing them while running I notice no difference. I do still wear "recovery" compression socks after some hard runs but I also use them as my dress socks as I find the compression just so comfy.

What is your thoughts? Are they just another Gear Buzz or are they here to stay and are they really doing much of anything?

I haven't tried them on enough runs to know if they help or not. I do wear them for recovery from time to time. I should experiment with them more for running because my calves tend to be one of my weak links.

I'm turning a little negative on compression socks though I do have three pair of them. I have some issues with swelling right now and what I am noticing is that the compression socks are pushing the fluid retention to the ankles. So they are probably very good if healthy but if you have swelling, I am not sure they are as good. This could just be me and my particular injury though.

For me, they help but I also have very bad veins in my legs so they do help my pain. If I didn't have that I'd probably be fine without them.

I've been using them as my achilles gets back to normal, but after that I probably won't use them as much. I do like recovery socks though after long runs and marathons.

I agree on not being sold on them during runs, however, I think they work post-run.
