It’s a big weekend for marathons, including Chicago, so here we go…

1. Favorite Pizza Joint/Pie:

2. Favorite Italian Beef Joint (if you don’t know what that is, just volunteer your favorite hoagie, hero, grinder, sub shop):

3. Sweet or hot (if you don’t know what I mean, answer with your favorite garnish for your favorite sandwich in #2 above):

4. Cubs or White Sox?

If neither, then who?

5. Favorite all time Bears player?

If none, who on another team?

6. Favorite point (other than the finish!) on the Chicago course?

If none, favorite point of another course?

7. Does the concept of “Mayor Emanuel” seem incongruous to you?

So, I’m seriously considering running one marathon 13 days after my last one:

8. Is this as crazy as I think it is?

9. Any tips for me?

And a stray thought:

10. Which is a better day for a marathon, Saturday or Sunday, and why?

Have a great weekend, and good luck to all our racers this weekend!!

It’s a big weekend for marathons, including Chicago, so here we go…

1. Favorite Pizza Joint/Pie:
Imo's pizza in St. Louis. Second to none.

2. Favorite Italian Beef Joint (if you don’t know what that is, just volunteer your favorite hoagie, hero, grinder, sub shop):
Steak and Cheese from Llwelyn's in St. Louis (what do you think, Jim?)

3. Sweet or hot (if you don’t know what I mean, answer with your favorite garnish for your favorite sandwich in #2 above):
Ummm, just regular?

4. Cubs or White Sox?
CARDINALS

If neither, then who?

5. Favorite all time Bears player?
Richard Dent - other than that, I liked Greg Lloyd

If none, who on another team?

6. Favorite point (other than the finish!) on the Chicago course?

If none, favorite point of another course?
Not enough experience to comment - maybe some day....

7. Does the concept of “Mayor Emanuel” seem incongruous to you?
YES

So, I’m seriously considering running one marathon 13 days after my last one:

8. Is this as crazy as I think it is?
Yes, probably. People do it I know - I just don't know how!

9. Any tips for me?
Don't hurt yourself!

And a stray thought:

10. Which is a better day for a marathon, Saturday or Sunday, and why?
Saturday - that way you don't have to worry about it no Saturday and can relax on Sunday.

Have a great weekend, and good luck to all our racers this weekend!!

1. Favorite Pizza Joint/Pie: Geno's

2. Favorite Italian Beef Joint (if you don’t know what that is, just volunteer your favorite hoagie, hero, grinder, sub shop): Dang, there's a place at the airport that was really good but I am blanking on the name.

3. Sweet or hot (if you don’t know what I mean, answer with your favorite garnish for your favorite sandwich in #2 above): HOT

4. Cubs or White Sox? Halo's/Cubs

5. Favorite all time Bears player? Butkus

6. Favorite point (other than the finish!) on the Chicago course? Lincoln Park

If none, favorite point of another course?

7. Does the concept of “Mayor Emanuel” seem incongruous to you? Yes, as does Mormon POTUS because the "rest of us are supposedly going to hell, unless we also give 10% of our income to The Church and have at least 5 kids to get closer to God." Not my quote but that doesn't sound very democratic.

So, I’m seriously considering running one marathon 13 days after my last one:

8. Is this as crazy as I think it is? Nope, I did the same last year(Maine Marathon then Mount Desert Isle)

9. Any tips for me? nothing but easy runs beginning 4 days after the first marathon

10. Which is a better day for a marathon, Saturday or Sunday, and why? Saturday, because you get to enjoy the city on Sunday and have a day to travel back home.I usually miss work Friday anyway

Mods: Please delete John's post as it's contents are disgusting and offensive! lol! And by disgusting and offensive, I mean no one should ever be forced to eat the awful thing he refers to in his favorite pizza answer. The "cheese" on that stuff is like putting Velveeta on a pizza. Yuck.

1. Favorite Pizza Joint/Pie: Lou Malnati's

2. Favorite Italian Beef Joint (if you don’t know what that is, just volunteer your favorite hoagie, hero, grinder, sub shop):
I'll go with Portillo's

3. Sweet or hot (if you don’t know what I mean, answer with your favorite garnish for your favorite sandwich in #2 above):
Sweet

4. Cubs or White Sox?
Cubs

If neither, then who?

5. Favorite all time Bears player?
#34

If none, who on another team?

6. Favorite point (other than the finish!) on the Chicago course?
Boys town is always hilarious and definitely gives me a good laugh.

If none, favorite point of another course?

7. Does the concept of “Mayor Emanuel” seem incongruous to you?
Don't really care, they're all crooks.

So, I’m seriously considering running one marathon 13 days after my last one:

8. Is this as crazy as I think it is?
YES

9. Any tips for me?
Don't do it?

And a stray thought:

10. Which is a better day for a marathon, Saturday or Sunday, and why?
If it's a close marathon and travel isn't an issue, Saturday since that allows ample time for post race partying and recovery. If it's far away, Sunday is better and I just take Monday off to recover from the post race partying!

1. Favorite Pizza Joint/Pie: European in Boston, but it closed a few years ago since they had been "stealing" electricity for 70 yrs.

2. Favorite Italian Beef Joint (if you don’t know what that is, just volunteer your favorite hoagie, hero, grinder, sub shop): Maria's sub shop in my hometown. Best meatball sub evah.

3. Sweet or hot (if you don’t know what I mean, answer with your favorite garnish for your favorite sandwich in #2 above): Don;t know what it means, but Hot would be for me.

4. Cubs or White Sox? Neither

If neither, then who? Braves and Red Sox

5. Favorite all time Bears player? Sweetness

If none, who on another team? Brady

6. Favorite point (other than the finish!) on the Chicago course? Either Lincoln Park or Chinatown

If none, favorite point of another course?

7. Does the concept of “Mayor Emanuel” seem incongruous to you? Yes and quite scary actually. I think I'd take several Mayor Dailey's over that.

So, I’m seriously considering running one marathon 13 days after my last one:

8. Is this as crazy as I think it is? No, I haven't done them that close, but in 2005 I paced Chicago and ran NY, and this year, I'm using NY as a training run and Tucson as a race. Both times there is a month between them.

9. Any tips for me? Allow yourself to recover and don't stress if you don't run at all between them. I've done the Goofy thing and that wasn't difficult at all. Get a massage a few days after Chicago.

And a stray thought:

10. Which is a better day for a marathon, Saturday or Sunday, and why? I prefer Saturday as then you have the rest of the weekend to party, celebrate, etc., but Sunday is fine as long as the race is early and I can shop in the afternoon (walking is good afterwards right). What I dislike about both Boston and NY is the late start.

Have a great weekend, and good luck to all our racers this weekend!! Ditto!

1. Favorite Pizza Joint/Pie: Edwardo's (spinach stuffed)

2. Favorite Italian Beef Joint (if you don’t know what that is, just volunteer your favorite hoagie, hero, grinder, sub shop):
Mr. Beef (still on Orleans?)
3. Sweet or hot (if you don’t know what I mean, answer with your favorite garnish for your favorite sandwich in #2 above):
Hot!
4. Cubs or White Sox?
White Sox - grew up on the South Side.
If neither, then who?

5. Favorite all time Bears player?
#40
If none, who on another team?

6. Favorite point (other than the finish!) on the Chicago course?
Taylor Street - goes right behind my high school, through Little Italy.
If none, favorite point of another course?

7. Does the concept of “Mayor Emanuel” seem incongruous to you?

There has been one Mayor Daley or another for most of my life, and the others have not been too effective (regardless of whether they were more "straightforward" or not), so it does seem incongrous to me.

So, I’m seriously considering running one marathon 13 days after my last one:

8. Is this as crazy as I think it is?

Yes, I think it is nuts.

9. Any tips for me?

Don't take it too seriously - have some fun!

And a stray thought:

10. Which is a better day for a marathon, Saturday or Sunday, and why?

I like Saturday, so I can get it done, rather than freak out all day Saturday in advance of Sunday.

1. Favorite Pizza Joint/Pie:
Anywhere? Track Town Pizza in Eugene, Oregon. In Chicago? Lou Malnati's.

2. Favorite Italian Beef Joint:
Mr. Beef

3. Sweet or hot:
Sweet. (Though I have to admit I had chicken when I was there instead.)

4. Cubs or White Sox?
Cubbies

5. Favorite all time Bears player?
Ditka? Peyton? The Fridge? Too many choices!

6. Favorite point (other than the finish!) on the Chicago course?
Never ran it, so don't know. But I think the start would be pretty amazing.

7. Does the concept of “Mayor Emanuel” seem incongruous to you?
In Chicago? Pfft. Fuggitaboutit. You get what you deserve.

So, I’m seriously considering running one marathon 13 days after my last one:

8. Is this as crazy as I think it is?
Depends if you race it or just run it.

9. Any tips for me?
If you raced your last one, run this one. If you ran the last one, pull out all the stops.

And a stray thought:

10. Which is a better day for a marathon, Saturday or Sunday, and why?
Sunday, because it allows for easier carbo-loading the day before.

Good luck all our Chicago racers!

1. Favorite Pizza Joint/Pie:

Has to be Butkus

If none, who on another team?

6. Favorite point (other than the finish!) on the Chicago course?
The turn up Michigan avenue because it's only three more miles or so.

If none, favorite point of another course?
The start of Boston was awesome, just from the point of "belonging" there

7. Does the concept of “Mayor Emanuel” seem incongruous to you?
Sort of but I think he can do a good job, he does need soem time though and we do live in a state run by people who are not that competent.

So, I’m seriously considering running one marathon 13 days after my last one:

8. Is this as crazy as I think it is?
No, it's doable

9. Any tips for me?
The second marathon can only be for fun.

And a stray thought:
Will that qualify you for Marathon Maniacs?

10. Which is a better day for a marathon, Saturday or Sunday, and why?
Sunday, need Saturday off to mentally and physically get ready

It’s a big weekend for marathons, including Chicago, so here we go…

1. Favorite Pizza Joint/Pie: No question Beggars Pizza

2. Favorite Italian Beef Joint (if you don’t know what that is, just volunteer your favorite hoagie, hero, grinder, sub shop): Al's and Freddie's ( on 31st). Yes Mr. Beef is still there.

3. Sweet or hot (if you don’t know what I mean, answer with your favorite garnish for your favorite sandwich in #2 above): Both! Have to love the Giardiniera

4. Cubs or White Sox? Come on there is only one major league team in Chicago WHITE SOX!

If neither, then who?

5. Favorite all time Bears player? Gary Fencik

If none, who on another team?

6. Favorite point (other than the finish!) on the Chicago course? The part between State, Jackson and LaSalle street. It's early in the race but i love it. Lot's of energy from the fans! I also love the right turn off Franklin on to Adams street! Another great spot were the crowds are thick and loud.

If none, favorite point of another course? Had to add the left turn on to Boylston Street and the final 1/2 mile of the Boston Marathon. As much as I love running Chicago there is nothing like in the world running this final 1/2 mile. Another favorite is mile 18 coming of the AP trail at JFK 50!

7. Does the concept of “Mayor Emanuel” seem incongruous to you?

So, I’m seriously considering running one marathon 13 days after my last one:

8. Is this as crazy as I think it is? Nope not at all! Same time frame this past year after Boston I ran a 1/2 marathon Trail race and then followed it up the next day with a 50k trail race. Plan on doing the same thing again this year after Boston.

9. Any tips for me? #1 start your recover right away after the first marathon. As much as you want to go party I would put that on hold until after the second marathon. The faster your body recovers from the first one the better off you will be. I would take a couple days off after the first and then start running easy. You don't have to worry about training hard but you want to get back to running soon to help with blood flood and have the body feel fresh for the next race. You don't have to do any long runs just some go short stuff and I think you will be amazed on how you feel in the second marathon.

And a stray thought:

10. Which is a better day for a marathon, Saturday or Sunday, and why? Doesn't matter to me any day is a great day to run a race.

Have a great weekend, and good luck to all our racers this weekend!!
