Tough, tough day.
Just spoke with Chris. He's okay, friend is in medical still, with no update. Chris tried hard to get his buddy off the course but couldn't do so. They finished, but it sounds like it could be serious....hopefully everything will check out okay.

In celebration of all our Boston runners, I ran 5 at lunch in 60F temps.
Great job today... you all bested the heat monster. Clean up, cool down, and grab a frosty beverage. Time to celebrate!

At this point in my life, I no longer make a distinction. It's all training in my book!

Re: 2012 Boston Tracking Thread
Thank all for tracking. It was warm but my plan was successful. It was most definitely the hottest marathon that I have ever run. Congrats to you all.
Re: 2012 Boston Tracking Thread
Congratulations all of you!
Are you saying Chris's friend is in medical tent or Chris? Either way I hope they're OK!

I hope Chris's friend is ok! Even for fit runners, especially idiots like myself, it was hard, dare I say dangerous out there.

Just got back to the office, glad to see that John made it in. So, now we just need everyone to report in and say that they are relaxing and well, or well enough.

Chris' friend is ok, thank God! He is back to the hotel safe and sound.
Lots of sirens around here today . Reminds me of Chicago, 2007.

Re: 2012 Boston Tracking Thread
Thanks everyone for doing this. Glad the commentary about my crash and burn wasn't here for me to come and sulk about. It was tough out there.

I think we all understand it was really hot and most if not all of us have run miserable, hot marathons before so I can't imagine anyone not being supportive.
ETA: I just looked at your splits and you ran a really strong race. Are you joking about crash and burn?

I agree. I am sure we will see some interesting race reports.
I suspect there will be an interesting report related to this snapshot from Wendy, who had to do surgery on her shoes at Mile 21...
If I can't solve my blister issues with my current shoes before my marathon, I plan to arm my spectator husband with scissors just in case I need to do something similar! I got the idea from Wendy, who said she has cut a hole in a shoe before!

Edit: I see now that he is OK. Thank goodness.
Re: 2012 Boston Tracking Thread
I did! I ran an extra 8 out and back to my old house - a bit hilly, it was great to see it. I was sweating a lot just from that part of the run, so I knew it was going to be a tough day. It was funny when people were riding their bikes to watch the race and passed me with weird looks (I had my bib on). 34.28 totalAlex Kubacki wrote:Whitney mentioned something about running 7M prior to the start as she's training for a 50M. I wonder if she still did that.
Thank you to every one for tracking!

Survived! Cooled it after the half and enjoyed the race, and glad I did. Was way too hot out there but amazing help from spectators-they had everything! Had a great time. Terrible tan lines. Hope everyone is okay, cooled down, and relaxing. Thanks for tor support and well wishes!

Re: 2012 Boston Tracking Thread
Thanks for this tracking thread everyone! And sorry I extended it for so long with my time, I totally crashed and burned, it was a horrible day, my worst marathon by 33 minutes! It's hard to believe I ran 3:34 six months ago. It was a tough decision to keep going because I had to walk a lot to keep from fainting symptoms.
One more thing - wthout a doubt, nothing even comes close to the women at Wellesley cheering. Even though I was struggling already by then, you can't help but have a big grin as you go by all of them giving high-fives constantly.

Re: 2012 Boston Tracking Thread
John you couldn't control the weather and I know it's disappointing running a personal slowest time when you're really training well and everything but I don't believe it reflects that you couldn't go and run a 3:3x marathon in the next few mos. Good job toughing it out and finishing. I know the longer you're out there the hotter it gets.
