Sleep Deprivation and the Samantha effect Empty Sleep Deprivation and the Samantha effect

Post  Sam from RonItch! on Thu Jun 16, 2011 12:20 pm

How do I get out of this? 4 weeks ago,my precious 10 yr old McKenzie got beaned by a softball during a game, she had jaw xrays and checked for concussion but her mood changed and she couldn't sleep, then got braces the following week. We haven't slept much in 4 weeks, she has me up multiple times a night moaning and crying and the ortho says she should have stopped hurting around 13 days ago. She has a CAT scan Monday to see if there's a skull fracture. Then 2 nights ago she had a rapid onset fever to 103.3 and I panicked worried about seizures etc. Long story short, I'm exhausted and it's really starting to affect my memory, attention level and cogency. Is sleep the only fix? Would any supplements help? It won't go away with just one good night right, it has to be a few? Any advice? And Tea, don't tell me to eat more fried chicken, that just got me fat. But mostly big. Neutral bounce Shocked pig

Well, I guess I have nothing to add the the conversation. Then again, you know what tequila does to me.

If I wasn't so damn tired, I'd drive back to Colorado and kick your ass. Again. Raincheck.

By my calculations, Flipper, you will exit the water roughly 40 minutes ahead of me, and I will pass your wide load on that cheap little tricycle at about the 36 mile mark. Then, I'll finish the run just about when you reach the 13.1 mark. I'll be loaded when you finish, but you know what tequila does to me.

Is this new math that you're using? Or is this what a 6th grade education gets you?

See kids? Stay in school.

About that cheap little tricycle that I ride, it's ALL about the bike. I'll try not to smack your ass when I pass you, k?

We have a saying in the world of triathlon: If you drink beer at 9am, you're an alcoholic. If you drink beer at 9am wearing spandex, you're a triathlete.

I'm still pissed Erock's kegs ran out of beer before we got to those aid stations. Damn 100 milers. Bet it was the Olympic Team that passed us. Like we were standing still. Amazing, not even the draft from that wide load you call an ass slowed them down.

And, I'm thinking your investment into Mensa hasn't really paid off, seeing as how you are a way faster swimmer than i(team), the only way you are passing me on the bike is if you get held up taking off those training wheels or if the jaws of life break as they are lowering you onto your schwinn. 6th grade rules!

What happens if you drink beer mid-marathon?

A whole beer or just a few sips? I've been handed beer during a 70.3 and was very happy to have it as fun wasn't a key factor just then. But I'd say chugging a beer during a race wouldn't have super good effects. Tea knows, she does it.

I would call that a marathoner with a drinking problem...

I am not sure how my stomach would take that...

I tell ya, I did a 50k a few months back and lived on pepsi and fruit snacks at every aid station, so I don't think the carbonation is a huge problem. I bet if it was really cold beer, I could handle it, but warm beer...no way.

My beer-during-a-marathon experience isn't quite as impressive as that, and it didn't settle well despite being cold and of decent quality. I had jumped in at mile 11.5 to help pace a friend to Boston. Took the beer at 17 or 18. It was only a couple ounces in dixie cups, but oof. Should've stopped to drink it.

Jim as far as your brain being fried if it takes wanting to run Comrades your doing pretty good then. I do believe I fried my brain a long time ago and it didn't take wanting to do a Ultra. HaHa Basketball
