Patiently waiting to get back into things and then boom, here you are - that really didn't take long for you to be "back", but you are certainly looking strong lately. That was a great run and VERY ENCOURAGING!!!! Great to see things moving along Seth...

Re: Hoping for Fall redemption
Looking forward to seeing your progress and results in Philly since we are both doing similar training plans. Sounds like you had some great trail running on vaca, wish I had closer access to a more rural setting and trails myself. Good to see it's going well for you, Seth!

Re: Hoping for Fall redemption
Jon, Julie, John, and Steve, thanks guys.
7 GA miles this morning on my weekday flat trail course (8:33/mile), finishing strong with the 1/2 mile climb up the hill back to my house. The first and last 1/2 mile are on asphalt. That hill is always a great finish, and I think over the course of a training cycle, it has a very positive impact.

Re: Hoping for Fall redemption
Starting your progression miles on an incline = a very nice workout. Way to nail that run, Seth.
Re: Hoping for Fall redemption
Solid GA run today. Your pace is very good all considering. Not sure you lost much in speed now build up that endurance!
Re: Hoping for Fall redemption
Thanks Mike and Ken
9 miles with intervals at the preserve this morning. Started with a 4 mile warm up, than 2 x 10 min/1 x 5 min intervals with 4 min. recovery jog in between. The last 3 minutes of the 10 min. intervals were faster than the first seven minutes, starting at about 7:30/mile and than down to about 7:20 mile.

Thanks Jim. The knee and I have seemed to come to an understanding. It's not 100%, and it's not going to be. On the other hand, it's not getting in the way of my workouts. I feel it at times, but it's not a big deal, and it's not getting any worse. In the first six weeks of this cycle, I haven't missed a workout. That's very unusual, almost unheard of, for me.

Thanks Kenny, Dave, and Randy.
An easy 6 miles this morning. The legs are a little tired after a few days of solid workouts. Everything feels good though.

Re: Hoping for Fall redemption
Great running. A half mile hill is quite an undertaking, so I can imagine it's been helpful in your training. I'm glad to hear your knee has been cooperative, if not happy to run. My hip is like that with me--I ignore it and it ignores me and we get along just fine. Keep up the great work!

Re: Hoping for Fall redemption
Jon, Julie, Kathy, Jim, thanks!
I had intended to get today's 15 miles in early, before the rain started, but last night the dog got sick so at 8:00 a.m. I was at the vets office. $285, a bottle of canine antibiotics, and 2 1/2 hours later, I started my run. (oh yeah, the dog's gonna survive).
By the time I started, it was 74 degrees, dew point of 73, and relative humidity of 95%...pretty tough conditons.
I ran the first nine miles on hilly trails, and with the humidity, despite the slow pace, the perceived effort was pretty high. The next four were progressively faster, with two of the miles at about MP. Again, I think the effort is not reflected by the pace. I finished with a 2 mile cool down. It started to rain for the last two miles, but by that time, the rain felt good.
In better weather conditions, I would have liked to have ran another mile at MP, but given how tough it was out there, I'm pleased with how it went.
I'll be out covering the storm later today and all day tomorrow. As long as we don't lose power, I'll squeeze in a recovery run on the treadmill in our condo gym sometime tomorrow.

Re: Hoping for Fall redemption
Someone had a very good run! I see you did the progression portion on a bit flatter surface (relatively speaking). Smart move!

Yeah, I planned it that way Kenny. With the weather conditions, there was no way I'd be able to sustain a decent pace on the hills. On the other hand, I had no choice but to do the biggest climb of the run right before starting the progression miles, so I was pretty much toast when I started running faster.

Good run today, Seth. I was pretty much toast today as well in the long run so I can relate. You did really well.

Really solid effort Seth! Sounds like being "toast" at some point in the long run today was a common theme for a bunch of us.

Had to laugh about the understanding that you and your knee have come to
- I am beginning to have a let's ignore one another relationship with
one of my hamstrings. Workouts looking really solid - Fall redemption is looking better and better! Stay safe up there - I'll be thinking about all of you in Irene's path tonight and tomorrow....

Re: Hoping for Fall redemption
John, Jim, John, thanks guys.
After covering Irene all day, I got finished early enough to squeeze in 5 easy/recovery runs to finally get my weekly mileage above 40 (42 for the week) for the first time in a long time. The rain had stopped pretty early in the day, but the winds were still tropical storm strength when I went out to run. The wind was really howling and the trees were swaying something fierce. It may have been a bit dangerous, but it was really cool.
Step back week coming up.
Here's a sample of what I covered today. We've had worse storms, but this was bad enough to wreak some havoc.

Good job on the running. Wow what a lot of flooding! it sounds like the storm has kept you plenty busy. I'm glad it wasn't as bad as they had thought it might be.
