Re: Baseball Playoff Thread
I'll take a stab at it:
I will say these playoffs especially a five game series can really be unpredictable. One or two pitchers have stellar games on one team and you can beat a superior talented team.
I'll go with
Tigers in five. If Verlander loses one of two games they will in all likelihood lose.
Rays in five. Unless the Rays have run out of energy catching the Red Sox
D-backs in five. Brewers haven't been here for a long time. Still should be a great series.
Phillies in four The Phillies are probably overall the best team at least on paper.
Moving on:
Tigers in six. The Rays run out of momentum.
Phillies in five.
Series: Tigers in seven. That's my official pick. If the Tigers lose to the Yankees, Phillies in six. Overall the team with the best overall pitching usually wins. Cliff Lee almost singlehandedly won it last year. Ran out of gas in the Series.
When it's all said and done, I'll most likely look not so good, but it's fun to speculate and prove that you're really not an expert. haha

Re: Baseball Playoff Thread
As far as I'm concerned baseball is over this year with epic collapses by both of my teams and the Tribe earlier than that. All I can say is that I hope the Yankees and the Phillies lose.

If it's not going to be in "the cards" this year (have to wait and see, but the Phillies pitching is just crazy good), I'll have to root for my NL Central brothers - Go Brewers!!!

I'm starting to think it would be pretty cool if two beer making-drinking cities wound up in the NLCS. The way Halladay and Lee pitched, the Phillies don't deserve it. I do expect Cole Hamels to pitch lights out, however.

Thoughts from the weekend...
1. Matt Moore is a complete stud. I wish the Cubs had sweet aces just waiting in the wings to come in and deal in the playoffs in career start number too. * Sigh *.
2. Inexcusable pitching to Prince in Game 1 with 1st base open. Of course, he made the Dbacks pay and blew the game open.
3. Yanks-Tigers is going to be a battle.
4. Moneyball was a better movie than I expected.

Desmond Jennings!!!! Rays' rookies continue to come through.
Let's keep it moving along Price.

I really thought TB was going to take that momentum they had going in and carry it right into the WS.

Re: Baseball Playoff Thread
Me too Nick...them and the Pihillies. I placed a nice sized parlay bet on the Brewers and Phillies winning their series. Both were sitting at 2-1 and I felt good. Neither could seal the deal and now I'll be sweating it out Friday night.
The Brewers win is more important since they play first. If they win I can consider hedging my bet to minimize my exposure on the Halladay-Carpenter duel. In fact, I could bet on the Cardinals +1.5 run line, thus guaranteeing that I can't lose, but at the same time having the chance to win both bets if the Phills win by 1.
But first, the Crew needs to take care of business at home!

Re: Baseball Playoff Thread
Hey Nick at least you have the Brewers to help keep your mind off the race until race day.
I remember in 2005 before my first Chicago Marathon, I flew out to Boston to watch the Sox sweep the Red Sox and then flew back to Chicago on Saturday and ran a marathon on Sunday. It was sweet because not only did I see a kick ass baseball game it help keep my mind off the race until Sunday morning.

Yay Tigers! I'm glad I didn't watch that game, tho. I would have had an ulcer with all those Yankees LOB.
Go Brewers and Phillies!

I love watching intense baseball games like that when I have no rooting interest.

Damn you CDT time zone folks!! They should play these games earlier and make the PDT folks suffer. 8:30 starts and 11:30-midnight finish times just won't work for me.

There's nothing like staying up to 2am to watch those West Coast games. I just bypass sleep and go out for my 20 miler and then sleep.
