New Marathon WR

Post  Matt W on Sun Sep 25, 2011 9:43 am

Although it's not as fast as the times in Boston this past spring, Patrick Makau runs 2:03:38 in Berlin. Geb DNFs.

Florence Kiplagat wins for the women in 2:19:44 and Paula was 3rd with a 2:23:46.

That's the part that hurts. I PR'd at 4:40 back in the day. These people are going to maintain that for 26 miles pretty soon.

Because the pace is his projected finish time and the split is what he ran for that kilometer.

That looks like a pretty tough workout.

It is...

4 x 10K at 29:18, no rest interval

Then hammer another 6 minutes at the same pace as "cool down"

According to a quick search, only approximately 30 American men have run 1 10k in under 30:00 in the last two years...let alone 2, or 3, or 4 in a row.

I haven't watched the replay. Anyone know if he was set to break the WR from the start or took that as 2nd goal after he secured the win?

Just amazing, hell I can't even have a dream like that let alone imagine doing it.

So now the next questions is will we see a sub 2 hour marathon in the future???

Breaking the WR by 21 seconds sounds like a lot, but he was less than a second a mile faster than HG.
