Do your non-runner family members know your PR?
Re: Do your non-runner family members know your PR?
My wife . . . "who the fuck cares!"
When I finally got her to answer she was 5 minutes off - pretty good, all things considered

Alright, I had my wife play, too.
Me: What's my fastest marathon time? (Didn't think she'd understand the "word" PR.)
Her: Oh jeesh, you expect me to know that?
Me: Just guess.
Her: 3:21 (actual 3:23)
Me: 5k?
Her: 19 something (actual 19:23)
Me: Half marathon?
Her: 1:20. (actual 1:33)
Not as bad as I thought.

I doubt any of my family knows or cares what my PRs are. I'm not sure they even know what PR stands for.

Re: Do your non-runner family members know your PR?
I shipped a "pop quiz" note back home from work. This was what I got back.
My actual marathon PR is 3:46:17
I asked Alita about my official half marathon and 5K PRs, and she came pretty close!
Better than I would if she asked me about her PRs... :cringe:
Wife: "Hmmm... my guess is 3:44:14 -- now this is what you HAVE done, not what you are capable of, right?
Son: "Around 3:30. I don't think he's gotten down to 2"

My mom could probably get close if she had to guess. I know that she has my times and places written down somewhere. The rest of my family would be nowehere close.

Jerry: Nobody ever cares about me.
Wife: That's not true. Give us an example.
Jerry: I bet you don't know my marathon PR.
Daughter(9 years old): Oh, I know I know, 1:21.
Wife: That seems a little too fast. How do you know?
Daughter: I saw the time at the finish of Daddy's last race.
Wife: Isn't that a half marathon?
Daughter: Yeah. I think 2:21 then.
Jerry: 2:21? Who do you think your daddy is?
Wife: 3:23.
Jerry: That's not even enough for BQ.
Wife: Who cares. You are not going to run Beijing anyway.
That is priceless!!!
I had to ask my wife:
John: Do you know what my marathon PR is?
Wife: What's PR, "pre-race"?
John: Personal record
Wife: 2:30 (only off by an hour, not too bad)
John: what's my 10K PR
Wife: 45 (only off by about 4 1/2 minutes)
John: What about my 5K PR
Wife: 18 (off by about a minute and quarter or so)
John: what did I get at the sprint tri that we were both at a couple of days ago?
Wife: 2:15 (only off by about an hour and 13 minutes)
Hahahahahaha! Got to love it. I have to give credit though, she did know how many miles a marathon is. As for the rest of my family, no way......

Hell, my mom keeps asking how many miles the last marathon was and if the next one is longer.
This is funny because it's true.
"No Mom, it's the same. 26.2. Yes, that is in miles. No, I'm not going to hurt myself and my back is fine."
That is some funny shit!

Re: Do your non-runner family members know your PR?
I think I'm going to post the question on facebook because I know all my friends just looooove to listen to me talk about running. I'll even make it easy for them and just ask them what my half marathon PR is only.
Now, can anyone tell me my password to Athlinks so I can find out what it is? hahahahha J/K It's 2:33:17
Let's see what people say or if anyone even replies!

Re: Do your non-runner family members know your PR?
Addendum:
I read a few of these posts to Gene. He looks at me and says, "okay, 3:25".
me: For the full???????
Gene: No the half.
me: WHAT?!? Heck, when I was a walker, I was faster than that. Told him my 2:19 PR just this past May.
me: "Remember how I've been trying to get faster in the half so I can get under a 5:00 marathon? My pr is 5:11 and I want to do Chicago next year????
Gene: (glazed over look, staring into space) " Ah! Right!"
There you have it. I should try asking my father. He's a numbers guy. Could be funny.

I know my marathon PR but I'd have to look up my half marathon and 10K and they're 3-4 years old anyway. I've never even raced a 5k.

Re: Do your non-runner family members know your PR?
Ok, I just asked for my half and marathon PRs via email. She answered quickly enough that there's no way she could have cheated.
"1:11 and change, in Indy last spring. 2:32 at Chicago two years ago."
Actual is 1:11 and 2:34. I'm impressed!

I haven't asked - and I wouldn't think they would have a clue.
I still get asked how long this last marathon was.

Not much idea, but she knows my winnings down to the penny.
AND she spent my sports-shop vouchers on herself.

No way. Heck, my dad IS a runner (or was) and forgets my name half the time.

That, I love!
I asked my husband and he first guessed "4:50?" then must have felt bad and replied again "4:40?" My actual PR is 4:29:10.

Re: Do your non-runner family members know your PR?
Wendy is a runner but I asked anyway but I'm thoroughly enjoying this thread. She knows my full, half and 5k times as well as I do.
Then she reversed it on me and she was closer than I was.
I responded with a 3:08 full even though I know darn well it was a 3:18 and corrected it immediately. How much change I have no idea.
I know her half time was 1:34 and change. I guess I don't pay much attention to the change.
I know her 5k time was 19 low but that wasn't good enough to express how low.... 06.
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

She said
Marathon - 3:50 actual 3:27
HM - 1:20 actual 1:36
10k - 24:00 actual 45:(old)
5 mile 20:00 actual 35:13
5k - 16:00 actual 20:23
scary. I asked if she knows who I am!
Kenny - I was thinking about your response during my run today. This actually makes perfect sense and explains a lot. This is why you can never find her at the end of a race, she is there at the finish line at a different time than when you actually finish

Re: Do your non-runner family members know your PR?
My husband swung from guessing 5:29, to 4:26, to 5:44. to 5:00. Never mind that he was waiting for me at the finish of my last race, noting that I came in under 5 hours.
My PR is 4:46 something. Ack, I don't even know my own PR exactly without looking it up!

My wife answered okay, she said uh 2:57?? It was last years PR so kudos to her, she didn't stop listening to my running stories until last year.

Nope...but to be honest, I don't usually remember Todd's PRs either. Heck, I have to look up my PRs in all distances except the marathon!
