mid week runs--keep the pattern?
Just curious: The mid week runs for the Int II from HH call for 5-10-5 in the peak weeks.
What are your thoughts on doing 5- 5-10 or 10-5-5 if you need to make a change? ( or even, 6, 9, 5........if the three add up to 20 does it matter?)
Just wondering, because I am really forcing the 10 mile run tomorrow before work so that I can keep the pattern. I will probably be late and have wet hair or a pony tail!!!! I probably could have/should have just moved the 10 to Saturday. (And in case you are confused, I do my long runs mid week and the other runs on weekend up until this week because of my teaching schedule.)
Bottom line--does that sequence matter that much??????

Re: mid week runs--keep the pattern?
Peg, for the most part the pattern shouldn't matter too much. That being said, I would try to complete them 10-5-5 so that your legs have enough rest for your weekend long runs. When I was using Hal's schedules, there were plenty of times that I had to adjust the run schedule.

It doesn't matter if you can recover from and for the weekend long run.

To me it doesn't matter. What does matter to me is that you get the long runs done so that you are able to keep the training consistent. The body doesn't care whether what day of the week we are running what miles other then you are giving yourself the right recovery between your workouts. Just my thought on the subject.

I agree with the other posts; the key point is to get in the mid-week long run (doesn't matter what day) and then the weekend long runs.

Re: mid week runs--keep the pattern?
Not to be an ass . . . but one thing I think has always helped me in the later stages of a marathon is the midweek long run. I consider that 12 to 15 miles. I don't know if 10 is long enough.
Having said that I don't think the order matters. I think it is all about cumulative volume over time - that is what pays off on race day
