Wondered if you would get the snow there that Denver is having. Lincoln, huh? That marathon is on my radar as I've heard good things about it, and I've never been to Nebraska. I think there is a decent marathon in Omaha as well.

We got 9 inches of heavy snow. It stopped by late morning on Saturday and the snow plow cleared the town streets right away so I was able to run 5 miles.

The Lincoln Marathon is great--it has been filling up fast lately. Omaha is also good from what I hear, but hilly. I've never run it. Lincoln is in the spring and Omaha in the fall.

I've been kind of off the grid over here lately...no particular reason. Training started Feb 12 for the Lincoln Half. I'm nearing the end of week 2. I'm still doing Body Pump 2x a week--wonder how long i can keep that up. I did a trail 5K last Saturday which was difficult--some snow packed, some mud, some slippery, and lots of uneven ground as well as plenty of hills! This Saturday we are doing a team triathlon a the Y--the 5K portion is on the indoor track, 13x to a mile. My husband is doing the 500 m swim and a friend is doing the 12 mile bike on the spinning bike.

I would need some anti-vertigo medication in order to do 5k on that track!

Enjoy...

One of my friends ran a trail 5K, I wonder if it was the same one last Sat (brewery?)

I hope the training goes well! I've run both Omaha and Lincoln marathons and the halves a few times and definitely prefer Lincoln.

Thanks everyone! Yes, that is a lot of laps! Last year they gave us a counter, and had volunteers who also kept track for each runner.

Julie, yes that was the same race! It was fun and Emyprean Ales had a great lunch and beer after! About 450 people or so!

Peg, will they allow you to switch directions on the track? It might put some added strain on one side if the turns are tight. Good luck and have fun.

Have fun in the tri! A 5K on the track really isn't that bad as I have run/raced several of them.

Post  Peg Coover Sun Feb 26, 2012 11:10 am

Thursday I ran 3.5 at the Y and then did Body Pump.

Saturday's race was fun. Jim swam and improved his time from last year. Gary biked. I ran the 5K in 25:24. Splits were 8:35, 8:12, and 8:15. Not bad for early in the year and all the turns! I'm not convinced it was exactly a 5k though. 13 laps per mile, and we did 40 laps. But it's fairly close--I suppose we should have done 1.3 laps above the 3 mile mark! My real 5K PR is from 1988, when I was 24, and I ran 25:17....I've been trying to get a new PR for years--this is the closest I have been so that's kind of fun!

Anyway, we got medals for first in our age division 146-165. We weren't the first team but we were in the right age group!

Wow, nice job on the race - that's a great 5k time for you on that tiny track, I think.
Plus, it sounds like a heck of a lot of fun.
Great picture!

Great job!

I just got drafted to volunteer at Lincoln Marathon where the half and full marathoners split so I will cheer for you there if I recognize you! (One of my running friends has worked that spot for years and recruited me)

Thanks Julie and Michael!

Today I did an easy 3.5 miles with my dog, then did Body Pump a little later. Body Pump was much easier than the last couple days! A good sign? Week two down--10 to go!

Julie, that's cool you are volunteering! That should be a good spot for me to look for you! When it gets closer we can communicate what we are wearing, etc!

Sounds like a plan! I'll be there with 2 men and we will be directing runners, not just standing there, but of course there are enough runners that it should be easy for most people to realize where they're supposed to turn or not (although I hear stories of runners with headphones who have been really rude about not hearing my friend tell them to turn off, I wonder why they can't hear?)

I never wear headphones, even when training. I find that I don't need them. My mind finds lots of ways to stay occupied. In a race I prefer to be aware of all around me. We ran that beautiful trail race a couple weeks ago and it amazed me that anyone would want to wear headphones during that!

Anyway, Nice 3.5 mile run Monday, Body Pump Tuesday, ran 4 miles at the Y tonight---really windy! We had tornadoes in Nebraska last night--nothing close to us, but a very "springy" storm went through! Humid and dark clouds, wind, lightning, rain.

No school today so I did my speed workout. 1.25 warmup, then 6x400 at about 8:15 pace with 400 recovery, then a mile cool down. It went pretty well.

I'm going to the Y later.

Post  Peg Coover Sun Mar 04, 2012 10:27 am

I ran an easy 3.5 miles yesterday--wind was already blowing. Today it is supposed to be warmer but even more windy! I think this might be a day to have Jim pick me up!

After my run yesterday I did some pushups. I haven't been doing the 100 pushup challenge for a while, and haven't even done pushups on my own since I've have added the body pump class twice a week. But I did some yesterday and just decided to see how many I could do in one set. I managed to get in 30 on my toes before I began to lose form. Not too shabby.

30 pushups! No, that's not to shabby at all!
I think of your 100 push up challenge every time I do my morning push ups. And every time, I think, NO WAY could I do that many. Whew!
