Matt, Twin Cities is fun--crowd support is amazing!

Kathleen, that is funny! When my daughter was pregnant my best friend bought me "grannie panties." Guess what they were: thong panties!

I swam one mile today! Yay! It took me exactly one hour, but I stop every 200 m to defog my goggles and take a 45 second breather. I also stopped two other times to talk to other swimmers. So now that I have that milestone done, I plan to work on getting the time down to a reasonable amount.

Rest day tomorrow. I wont' be around (sad) as I am going to be support crew for my husband and two friends who are biking 65 miles. Mostly I will drive around and hopefully get a chance to read.

Happy Friday!

I can do without the defogging of goggles. Really have to get the right pair which took me quite trial and error. I think I bought 3 pair before I found one that worked out well, no leakage no fog and no racoons eyes.

Hopefully I can find a better pair! I agree, once I'm in the groove I don't want to stop to defog either!

So my brother was in town and I invited him to golf. We walked 9 holes, which probably took an hour longer than it should because I'm not much of a golfer (he is). I carried clubs too! I had about 50% of my shots be pretty good, so I will take that! He was wearing a pedometer and said he walked about 3. miles. That after swimming is a decent no running day! Tomorrow total rest!

Hey Peg, congrats on the mile swim. I'm chasing that goal myself right now so can appreciate the accomplishment. Looks like you've got a good plan here and there's no doubt you are going to do great!

Thanks Tom!

Wow, in light of the new blogging forum, the iTeam, and how fun it is, I am shocked nobody commented on my grannie panties! Oh well....

Rest day yesterday and today I did 6.8 easy but on a hilly route. Nice weather!! 27 miles for my step back week. On to week 4!

Oh, and I did pushups: 28, 35, 25, 22, 35! Like a Star @ heaven

Oh, Peg!

Try spitting on the inside of your goggles, smearing it around, and rinsing in the pool. Works for me.

I know you have 4:30 in you this year. You are so dedicated and I haven't seen you miss many PR attempts. Did you do Bolder Boulder this year? We skipped it this time

You've hit on one of the main reasons I stopped swimming - I cant stand constantly fidgeting with the goggles! If you ever find a pair that works well, let me know!

3 mile run today--took it easy but the last mile was a 9:05! I swam at noon--did another mile!

Natalie, the spit thing worked great! I didn't have to stop much and I did the second half mile all at once!!! Thanks for the tip!

Tomorrow rest day; Wednesday 6 pace and long run of 13 on Thursday.

Hey Peg, your post last week about swimming a mile really energized me and I did my own on Sunday (not non-stop, but in the workout). Now to get the mile non-stop. Thanks for sending the energy vibes my way!!

Great work, Tom! It feels good, but it takes me a looooong time!

Sad day today...we are taking my old training partner Newton into the vet for his last visit. He has a growth/tumor in his jaw. You can feel it when you touch under his neck. It is growing rapidly, affecting his eating and breathing. He has lost a lot of weight and is lethargic. I think he could live another week or so but his eyes, nose, and drool are all mucus-y and I think he is just miserable. The Vet wanted to biopsy or xray to see more about what is going on, but knowing we wouldn't do any surgery or anything, we declined and waited a couple weeks before making this decision.

Newton is 12. He ran a lot of miles with me.

Last summer

November 2009 Newton is on my left--the bigger one.

good for you with the push ups!! I wimp out on them, too.

Sad about your dog, pets are so special...I was so sad when my mom had my cat put down when I was in college. He had cancer and it was eating his face, especially his nose. She couldn't even tell me over the phone, she had to write me she felt so bad about it.

Have a good long run Thursday! Sounds like you're really pushing yourself.

I remember the second photo of the 3 of you out for a run. I'm so sorry, it's really tough to lose a friend.

About those push-ups! Awesome! Which program are you using? I had started the 100 pushups a day which only has 5 sets. Are you using an iphone app?

Dot, I use hundredpushups And it varies, 5 sets, 8 sets.....I really builds you up in the ability to do those reps! I had trouble when I got to week 6! I stayed at it and at it but couldn't beat it so I started over. I'm almost there again now. We shall see!!

Post  Schuey on Wed Jun 22, 2011 12:06 am

Really sorry to read about your dog Peg. A little over a year ago I lost my dear girl Trinity, she was a little over 13. The good part for us was she passed in her sleep lay next to me. So I know how tough it is are dogs become so close to us and well it is hard to explain.

A cool thing that Lisa did for me is she bought this charm that has a dog paw on it and we were able to put some of Trinity's ashes in it and wear the charm. She passed in Feb of 2010 and the only time I wear the charm is when I run a marathon, so her first marathon was Boston and she has been a sub 3 marathoner the whole time. Darn dog! Smile

It will get better.
