2018 Presque Isle Half Marathon
So I have indeed been training - swimming, biking, and running in hopes for some course revenge at Ironman 70.3 in Augusta. I did include another half marathon in that training plan as I once again ran the Presque Isle Half Marathon. I have run this event 11 yrs in a row - and you'd think it would never change until this year when we ran the course in reverse - so instead on counter-clockwise, we ran the loop clockwise around Presque Isle. And as always, it was a typical warm (74F) and humid (84%) morning (86F by the finish) and I am so glad that they decided to start this race 45 min earlier a few years back so that we are running in the coolest part of the day. It certainly helps those back of the packers as I know I'm grateful for the earlier start even if it means getting up at 4:30 am.
I have run times on this course anywhere from 1:44 to 1:52, so I am always happy to run a time in that neighborhood as it keeps me in line with my competition. This year was no different as I ran 1:46:20 and placed 1st in my AG. The age groups are thinning though as I was also 5th master this year and in the 50 women overall. No matter as it is all about who shows up and this year I beat the next woman in my AG by almost 8 min.
Very happy with the race as I had no real expectations and my goal was to run a comfortable 7 miles, then do a hard 1.5 miles, then "Rest" and then finish strong. As you can see from the splits below, I did just that. Hopefully, this will carry me through to September and I'll last for 13.1 miles in the heat of Augusta. (Fun fact as this was my longest run since IM 70.3 Victoria). (Mile 2 included a bathroom stop! - guess I was hydrated enough)

Thanks all. Was talking about you this morning Kevin with a friend who lives in Alexandria. Just saying that I loved the neighborhood where you live. Might have to come visit again.

Sorry for the late response...
Yes, no doubt that you're still fast Michele. Pretty impressed with your ability to maintain/improve as you move up in age groups! And you have an uncanny ability to pump out the splits that you want...even when you want them to be or varied depending on your goal at that point in the race. I know that you put a lot of effort into your training...and it shows!
Congrats on a nice race!
