Garmin 920 XT

Post  Nick Morris on Wed Jan 14, 2015 4:47 pm

I have been looking at this watch and like it a lot.  Does anyone own it and want to share your experience with it?  Also, do I need the HRM-Run heart rate monitor to measure cadence, predicted finish time,VO2, etc?  Or can I use other heart rate monitors?

Thanks!!

I believe that you need the HRM, but you can use any Garmin HRM that you might previously own.  When I got my 620, I just used an old HRM from my 610.

So, I went ahead and bought the 920XT last night. I ended up getting $50 off, so I figured I'd get it. Welcome to the 21st century Nick Wink

Cadence isn't measured by the HRM.  The strap on the 220 stopped functioning once and I still had cadence.  I paired up my 305 strap to the 220 watch and still had cadence plus the HR.  It does seem, though, the HR with the 220 strap was a little different than the 305 strap.  No clue as to why, but I stuck with the 305 strap throughout the rest of the training and the race for the sake of consistency.

Do yourself a favor, Nick, and where both watches on runs so you see how different the measurements are.  I remember reading DC Rainmaker wore 5 watches at the same time and each watch measured very differently.  scratch

I think I will, just to see what the differences are.  I would think that the 920 would be more accurate than my 305, as the technology has changed with the 305 being outdated.  Thanks for the tip.

I never had the measuring issues with the 305 that I do with the 220.

I've had much more issue with my 405 than I ever did with the 205 or 305.  I think the size reduction may have cost some of the consistency even while they were able to get them to grab the signal much more quickly on start up.

Funny, my 620 has been no different than my 310.
