It will be here before we know it!
Sorry to hear you're still struggling with cold weather. We've been wet but it's warmed up and the wind finally died down. I hate to admit that I ran in the sunshine with temps in the mid 50's yesterday.
Train well...

Thanks for rubbing it in
It's been really cold here all week and will be through at least the weekend. Close to zero windchills last night and tonight and -30+ windchills scheduled for Saturday morning. Is it Spring yet??

Re: I Think I'll Go To Boston...
A crisp one tonight...10 degrees at 5pm, with a windchill of 2 degrees, when I started my run this evening. The wind was much more calm tonight, which made it more bearable. I got in 6.22 miles...a nice step back weekend approaches me with only 6 miles on Saturday and 12 on Sunday. Although, the Saturday run will be in arctic conditions...hopefully the weatherman is wrong!

This weather is crazy this winter. I haven't looked at weather graphics, but I'm betting that the jet stream has gone all wacky on us again, giving us California-lite weather and you... well, something out of Nunavut.
It's bad for pure training for you, but keeping at it will do wonders for your intestinal fortitude. Provided your intestines don't freeze.

I'm more worried about my fingers than my intestines

Scheduled off day today. Resting up for some cold runs this weekend. I think that running on the snowy planet of Hoth will be warmer.

Yup...it was pretty cold today. -17 with the windchill and 30 mph winds. I completed 6.80 miles with 2 of them straight into the frigid teeth of the wind!! Holy hell! Best part is, that it is supposed to be even colder tomorrow!!

Holy cow. I've got no idea how you a)talk yourself out into that weather, b)run safely in all the slippery stuff you have to contend with and c)talk yourself out into that weather. More power to you!

Re: I Think I'll Go To Boston...
Brrr...It was a cold one yesterday. Luckily the wind was not as strong as Saturday, so the wind chill only made it to -20 degrees. The actual air temperature was a little bit colder, though, at -9 degrees. I was able to get in a frost 12.20 LSD miles. My average HR was a mere 129 bpm. I was extremely happy to find that number so low. It will make this week's jump in mileage more manageable.
It was so cold yesterday, that I had a first. I had a huge piece of ice form on my facial hair. Normally I get a few little pieces of ice, but this one was pretty large (see below).

Re: I Think I'll Go To Boston...
4 miles on the treadmill today. I have implemented something new with this training cycle. Normally my Monday's are assigned a recovery day to help come back from the weekend long runs. With this cycle, I have decided to do a normal 4 mile run the Monday after a step back week. My thought is that the recovery week should have my legs in good shape for a normal workout and shouldn't need a recovery pace. So far it has worked out well...
Aside from the run, I also got in some weight training. I followed that up with some core work.

+1 I was pretty proud of the cold weather running I did way back in Nov/Dec but it was nothing compared to what you guys are dealing with! Not sure I'd be as committed as you are.

The 30 mph winds would get me. It builds character though, right? Good work, very tough.

Re: I Think I'll Go To Boston...
I survived my run in a windchill advisory. Once my hands started warming up, this got a bit better. It took me a mile and a half to get them warm. It's weird, but I have found that I lose feeling in my left thumb and right ring fingers when it is really cold. Feeling comes back when I get my core temp up. I must have bad circulation to those two fingers. After getting my body warmed up, the rest of the run was "alright". I got in a total of 7.28 miles.

4 degrees felt pleasant this a.m. because of no wind. I think we need spring, badly, when 4 feels nice.

Back at it again this evening. It actually was above zero degrees at 4 degrees, although the windchill was -4 degrees. Still, it felt good to stay off the treadmill. A total of 6.30 miles by the time I finished. I am hoping that spring is here soon.

Re: I Think I'll Go To Boston...
This is a silly question, but how is all this sub-zero weather affecting your day-to-day life?
I know you're in Wisconsin, and are thereby required to affect an attitude of casual indifference ("If you dress right, it's no big deal, don't you know...") but really... the whole routine of going to the grocery store, work, etc., sounds rather challenging. Are surfaces that slippery when it's so cold? Or is it too dry?

And I guess all the vehicles have engine block heaters and the garages are heated?Mark B wrote:This is a silly question, but how is all this sub-zero weather affecting your day-to-day life?
