It's hit social media...

The age-old debate (that really isn't a debate: the clear answer is NO):

No!! - I don't even like to wear the shirt of a race that I dropped out or had to bail on due to injury.  Heck, I signed up for the Akron Marathon and I'm only pacing 18-19 miles with a friend and I'm reluctant to wear that swag (and its a cool jacket).

Michele - I JUST wore a tech shirt I got from the 50-miler I DNS'ed for the first time...  2.5yr later.  Fortunately, it doesn't say "50 miles" anywhere on the shirt, just a generic NorthFace one with the Endurance Race logo on the sleeve.

Here's a fun list of "rules" for y'all..

T-Shirt Etiquette

Two other rules I found on another (one of many) similar lists.

1. Never wear a T-shirt that vastly out classes the event you're running. Example: Never wear a Western States 100 T-shirt at, say, Cool Canyon. Too many roadies will feel put down. It's okay to wear a WS100 or Leadville or Wasatch T-shirt at ultrarunner cult events such as Gibson Ranch or Jim Skophammer 24. It's probably not okay to wear your Trans-America footrace T-Shirt to your local around-the-lake Fat Ass 50k unless you want to psyche out the competition.

2. Never wear a blatantly prestigious T-shirt downtown. People will just think you have a big head, which you do.

Who among us is guilty of No. 2? (Okay, let's put it this way: Who isn't?) Very Happy

I actually don't wear race shirts in general. There are only a couple that I wear a few time while training, but that's it.

Quite often I wear the race shirt the day of the race... but after the race is over. Usually to the pub later that day!

Mark - I wear my Boston jacket whenever I know I'll be with a group of endurance athletes in a somewhat drizzly situation.  This has happened more than you'd think.  Oops.

I only wear my Boston shirts for training when they are under layers (except when I'm running with my marathon group in OH as they have pretty much all run Boston at one time or another) and I do where one jacket when walking the dog.

Re: It's hit social media...

My tradition is to finish my race then put on the shirt after I clean up and wear it the rest of the day. It is part of my finisher's routine. After that I might wear it in training or for other exercise. Outside of running or hiking, I rarely wear race shirts.

If I ever get a Boston jacket, I imagine I might wear it more than the shirts, but then I don't wear running type jackets all that much either.

I have a few shirts from races that I ended up not running. I only wear those for training when all my other shirts are in the laundry. It just doesn't feel right to wear them!

Seriously, I wear those freaky ugly cotton race shirts only because I'm cheap.

Well lets see, my 9 year old wore his shirt at Bayshore for his first 10k.  Guess he must be a noob.   Very Happy

"Joggers."  Much like "bikers," those who are still resisting the elite status of being a runner.

Once I was at an event, they promote Rock n Roll Dallas half and offer prior year's race tech shirt for free. So I take one and wear to run often.  affraid

There is no shame in that Jerry. The discussion revolves around wearing the race shirt during the actual race. During training is a whole different story...which I think is just fine...
