That's a lot of marathons!!
Larry Macon set a record for running the most marathons in a year at 239 in 2013. Oh, and he is 69 years old...(might explain why he has so much time to do all of them)

Larry is also an awesome guy! He once took a deposition from Zsa Zsa Gabor. I think it's funny as hell...

Do you realize that is 6,261.8 miles in a year, or over 520 miles per month, and that's if he didn't run at all on the other days…..

He is an amazing guy - and fun too. I talked with him at Myrtle Beach when I ran and he was a wealth of stories.

He was at the Green Bay ultra last weekend running the 8 hour race. We talked to him on the trail several time.

When you look at it that way, it seems even more amazing...

I would like to see the list of races and the days they were run. How do you run that many logistically. If you ran one every Fri, Sat, Sun you'd only be at 150. I don't know of many that are run during the week. How many times did he double up on the same day? Also I think most are run in the morning so how did he do it. Amazing feat.

Re: That's a lot of marathons!!
When I met him the first time at Myrtle Beach, he was running that one (Saturday) and then another on Sunday which is how I believe he does it most of the time. I know he has run Boston on numerous occasions and then there are those weeks where a marathon in each state is run for five days like the New England challenge or the Dust Bowl challenge. He actually tried to explain the logistics once to a friend while we were running and chatting with him, and it seemed way too complicated.

Sounds like a lot of traveling and race fees. This guy must have a deep pocketbook, as all of those races can't come cheap.

I was thinking the same thing, but I bet he got into a lot of races for a discount or for free once the RD knew his story and ambition. However, most of the travel costs were probably still there. Maybe with his running network he found some homes to stay in for free. My guess is he really needed to plan and think this through.Nick Morris wrote:Sounds like a lot of traveling and race fees. I was thinking that maybe he is well off and just looking for something to do. I agree with you about the planning, though.
