Garmin Express Empty Garmin Express

Post  Nick Morris Sun Jul 20, 2014 2:34 pm

It has been a few weeks since I had uploaded any data to Garmin Connect. When I went out to the site it prompted me to download Garmin Express. So I did. While it does justo automatically sync/upload my runs to Garmin Connect, I still have to go out to Garmin Connect to view my dashboard. I do not really find this any better and, in fact, would rather use the link that I have saved to my desktop for Garmin Connect. I just wanted to see what others thought of Garmin Express...

Garmin Express sucks and doesn't support runningahead. However I didn't download it. As an IT professional, we always let others test out new softwares first wait until we have to upgrade. lol!

Since it has been a few weeks since I was on Garmin Connect, I am not sure how new it is either...

It isn't new as I have had it since I've had my 620, but I'm not enamored with it.  I'm having an issue with my 620 in that I cannot download the new firmware since it says the device doesn't have enough memory.  I've deleted the activities, but still it will not install.  Call to Garmin in the morning.

I was prompted to download it a few weeks ago, did so and it works fine. I don't see any "plus" to it, but it seems to function adequately for my purposes.

Yeah, I guess that is my point.  I don't really see a benefit to using it. Glad to see that someone else thinks so, as well.

I would bet that it's a precursor to some bigger change they're going to make and they're getting you used to it before they make some other, more significant change.

That makes sense. I would be happy if they moved the dashboard to the express module. Then everything that I need would be in one place.

I hate upgrades to websites especially when it's not needed. I think it's a justification for IT specialists to keep their jobs! Sorry IT folks, it happens too often.

Many of the updates we do as part of my IT role are either security requirements or support for an older operating system, application or piece of code is no longer supported and an update is forced on us. We have a piece of hardware we bought from IBM 3 years ago that will be end of life this year and they don't want to support it any more and the upgrade cost is very high.

...and sometimes it is pushed by marketing.
