Need Advice - Thinking of BQ attempt 5 weeks after Boston
Ok, I ran Boston and the wheels came off for me. I am disgusted with myself as that was a first for a goal marathon. So I'm thinking of running Buffalo in 5 weeks off my current fitness to get a BQ. I can't count on the fall right now.
Now I did run Boston all out the whole way and so my legs are a bit trashed from that. So the question is can I recover enough and run this for a BQ attempt? I need a 3:25 and my PR was last year at 3:18:xx. I did a 24-wk plan getting to Boston and I know the speed and fitness is there. I just don't know the recovery aspect.
Thanks for any thoughts.

I say go for it....take this week easy, do 1-2 long runs and some speed, 2 week taper.

Yes, it is possible and Buffalo is a flat course (I'm running the relay, so the plus is you will know someone there). The only downside is that it can also be warm given that it is Memorial Day Weekend, so if that was your issue on Monday, then try to get in some hot weather runs in the next few weeks.
Last year, I ran Cleveland 3 wks after Boston and the wheels fell off there at mile 21, but it was also 80+F by then.

I did it in 2012 after the inferno in Boston and set a PR in another hot one. Can be done. Follow Whitney's advice. Most important is to recover.

I think it is possible to do it, Alex. In years past I have run fulls with three or four week breaks, sometimes one a month for several months. Now last year I ended up injured most likely because of that so there is always risk involved. Guess you will need to decide if the potential reward outweighs the risk. Good luck in your decision making!
Sorry I missed meeting you this past weekend.

It can be done, and Whitney's advice is spot-on. Recovery is key.

Even Hal has a plan on line that I've used before. The mileage is not that intense, but it kept me sharp. I used it when I paced Chicago and then ran NYC 4 wks later. I ran 10 min faster in NY.
