The "In Between"

Nick I saw your post about Crossfit on Doug's blog, and although I do not do Crossfit specifically, I do two core classes and work with a trainer for an hour 2x per week during a training cycle, so I'm sure you could handle Crossfit if you chose to do it.  I have a friend in Atlanta who combines them both - I think she does Crossfit 2x per week and I know that she runs 5-5 days per week.  She's my age  - so again, I think you can handle it.  

I think Crossfit gyms do differ from one to the next and some have a highly competitive atmosphere and others do not.  I know that the one she attends is run by a guy who is actually an ultra trail runner, so he does get that mentality.  I went with her a couple of times and as long as I didn't compete with the others in the room and went at my own pace, it really wasn't that much different (workout wise) than the core classes that I take now.

Hey Nick...great to hear you're feeling stronger and getting some miles under your feet again.  Is the October marathon just part of the plan to get ready for Boston 2015 or are you looking to improve your qualifying time?

Thanks Nancy!! I am just looking to qualify for 2016 (I get 5 more minutes as I move up an age group ) It will also be a good base to get me ready for Boston training.

A good run this morning. The lower 40 degree thaw we had yesterday made for some slippery footing this morning, as the overnight temps froze the melt. I got in a good 6.80 miles. To top it off I finally got to run without my winter running jacket 14 mikes tomorrow and if all goes well, I will start ramping up again...

Yay for jacket-less run!  Hope your long run went well today.

A good run today...a strong cold wind that ironically switched directions and was in my face for both directions of my out and back. 14.11 miles today to give me almost 21 for the weekend. I was a little tired with about two miles to go, but I ended up getting a second wind and finished strong. I feel good and am happy that I can start ramping things back up.

Oh ya...I forgot to mention that I bought a couple of pair of trainers for my spring running. Mizuno Wave Rider 17 and New Balance M890 v4. I really like the pair of New Balance shoes that I got for winter running and figured that I would give their trainers a chance.

Good choice for your October marathon.  Sounds like your weather is still a bit of a roller coaster but your training is going well.

Thanks Nancy...I am looking forward to get back to some longer runs.

I finally got to run outside after work on Thursday. It was just a short three around my neighborhood, but it felt good to get outside. Then it was off to pack, as I headed out to Arizona Friday evening...hoping to get a few runs in while in the desert.

Yesterday, we went to Maryvale Baseball Park to watch my Brewers take on the Reds. We got killed, but I got to see my all time idol Robin Yount and also meet the hottest thing in baseball...Hank the Dog. He is so cute!!

Aw. Hank's very cute. I bet he'd rock those shades you're wearing in the photo.

Enjoy the desert runs. Watch out for cacti!

Got out this morning for a good run in the desert. So nice to be back in shorts and a sleeveless. Put in 6.23 miles at a pretty easy 7:38 pace. Looking to get in another run tomorrow morning, too. Right now it's pool time!!

So, I made it back from Phoenix and Las Vegas on Sunday in one piece. Only to be bitch slapped in the face by Mother Nature and 20 degree temps. What a bitch!!!

I got in an easy 3 miles at the gym...too cold to go outside (I'm a weather pussy)...it was the first time that I have ran since since Phoenix...I took it easy and rN at a 7:40 pace.

I finally got back outside today for a four mile jaunt around my neighborhood. Man did the wind suck!! 20 miles an hour and made 40 feel like 25. Good run, though, as I ran it at a 7:35 pace. Another run scheduled for Friday and then a long run on Saturday.

Funny you say this...I just booked a work trip to Miami for April 9-11...

So, I am all signed up for a fall marathon. I am officially registered for the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon on October 5th.
