Hope to see more of these video blogs soon!

I plan on shooting a few short video sessions today, reflecting on my latest life excursion. Just been too exhausted or pain occupied to think about video. Now I am "jonesing" to hit record! Look out 365 and Facebook. No - seriously!!!

It was quite a weekend at the Indiana Trail 100!
Unreal.

I DID go 100 inches and then dropped out.
I just cannot put a report together just yet, but I will soon.
I promise.

I love that you did that, and I shared your experience with the running friends that I was with in DC.  They send there best wishes for that recovery which appears to be coming along swimmingly!

Great videos, and even greater that the volunteer didn't send you flying sideways when she rushed in to congratulate you!  Very Happy

I'm glad you made the trip. I have no doubt you'll be out there with the headlamp crowd nest year.

Re: Slowly Going Somewhere . . .

Some images:

I was awarded the IT 100 Directors award for 2014. Last year it was Sam Carman, Superintendent of the park and ardent supporter of the IT 100. The award is for someone who is passionate about the race and I received this on Friday at the information meeting after the pasta dinner. I was very surprised to hear my name and for ONCE was at a loss for words. I did cry - yes.
The award is in the shape of a beaver tail - there are beavers ALL over that park and they take down HUGE trees.

I received the award from RD - Mike Pfeffercorn - unbelievable RD who has training runs every single week - starting the week after the race. Both day and night runs - ALL YEAR LONG! Amazing guy.

With Susie after my 100 inches and DNF. She had hard work getting me around the race - she is really a little gal.
She pulled a back muscle - it is getting better.

My finish - I was exhausted coming down that chute. I did not "have" to do that, but I had to in my way of thinking.
Everyone had to go down that chute and so did I.
This made Susie really mad and it still makes her mad.
Please don't ask her about this decision of mine.
Really don't.
Please please don't - she will go off on you and she almost NEVER does that!

The park superintendent had this boulder installed near the race start. He LOVES this race and the attention it brings to the park.

And we now have permanent trail IT 100 markers out in the park.
You don't need a map or an app on your iPhone. Very cool.

My running partner - Bob Siscoe - from Spencer on the other side of Bloomington.
A very quiet and humble guy. He gave me his belt buckle to put in my office as motivation for next year.
I knew he was going to do that - he told me the day before and I was blown away.
But THEN after giving this to me - he said he was giving away the race next year for me.
He will be my pacer starting at mile 50 in the 2015 race. I lost it - that is a great friend who is sacrificing for me.

The buckle's new home for a year. Then it goes back to Bob!

And lastly - but certainly not "leastly" is this bumper sticker designed by our own Mark Bowder.
I designed one and ordered it, but Mark came up with a much better one.
His will be first, then mine. I told Mark I loved it and he went ahead and ordered and paid for it for me.
Thanks again Mark - a very clever bumper sticker that will get me some questions at races for sure!

Wow, thanks for sharing all of this, Charles.  And glad to know that you are healing well. Most runners are a selfless bunch - I mean look at Meb.

You did the WHOLE CHUTE before doing your 100-inch ultra?

On one leg? With a walker? On uneven terrain? With multiple pelvic fractures just starting to heal?

Oh boy. I can see why you're in the doghouse for that one.  Suspect

Good talking with you today. I'm looking forward to seeing a photo of that sticker on the back of your new car. Smile

Love the bumper stickers!

You were an inspiration prior to the accident so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that rather than use it as an excuse to sit at home you're still out there inspiring others!!

Don't make things to tough for Susie...her job is a hard one.  I just hope she shares your sense of humor...

Great to see/hear the progress you are making.

I got my prescription for PT and hope to get in on Monday.
I know what it will be like the first few sessions - passive therapy to beat the band.
I had that years ago with my shoulder surgery.
I faithfully kept my arm in the sling for 6 weeks - no cheating.
It was almost frozen and we waited almost too late.
Unreal pain, but I got through it.
My therapist thanked me for not screaming like most people did.
I WAS screaming on the inside and crying on the outside.
But it must be done and will not last - I still dread it.
I have saved some of my pain meds for it and the aftermath!
Still better than dead.

It hit me hard today and I cried a lot when I thought about the impact my death would have had on my kids.
Especially Becky and her wedding in 2 weeks in AK and Sarah with her soon-to-be-born child.
It would have been really tragic and tough for them.
Makes me very grateful. Again and again.

Nice videos, Charles. You are making such great progress in such a short time.

Yeah, the PT is going to be tough. But you're tougher.

I'm sure that the next few days are going to be filled with highs and lows and are going to be tough at times.  You know we'll all be thinking of you and supporting you just as you have supported others.

Charles, you continue to provide inspiration to others!

Just got a call from our daughter, Sarah!
Granddaughter # 5  - Orabelle is here in CA.
Best photo we have at the moment - better later.
So happy I am still here - I can't imagine how Sarah would be if I had died 6 weeks ago.
She had a VERY long labor, but did it.
We go out on June 3 to see them after our Alaska wedding trip in 2 weeks.
It's a good thing I will be out of a wheelchair.
A great day and every day is a great day.

I think I need to start a new blog for my new journey!
I am allowed to bear weight - BUT I do not walk around.
I still use the walker and soon crutches.
Look out 2015 IT 100!
