Wish me luck
So I've been fighting sciatica issues for about 6 months now and MRI has confirmed I have a bone spur and compressed disk that are impinging on the nerve canal. I've tried chiropractic, ART, acupuncture, everything. Funny thing is I can walk or run pain free but can hardly drive a car or sit at my desk. Putting my socks on is next to impossible. No way around surgery so it's on for tomorrow am. Don't know how long before I can run again but I'm hoping for 6-8 weeks. I want to run the LA marathon again in March which may be doable but we will see.
Hope I don't go crazy not running for a few weeks and I'm terrified about the loss of conditioning but i have no choice. Ran 6 yesterday with no watch and it was wonderful.....

Dang!! Sorry to hear that you are going under the knife, but the good thing is that hopefully surgery will fix it and you will be pain free. I hope that rehab goes well and you will be on the short end of your recovery window.
Good Luck!!
Good Luck!!

Here's hoping that the surgery will remove the source of your sciatica problems, Tim. Karma rockets heading your way!

Re: Wish me luck
best of luck Tim. I'm sure it will go just fine. Yes, you'll lose conditioning, but think of all the pain free stuff later. It's worth it. Will be thinking of you.

You can run 6 easy. That's not bad in fitness. Good luck Tim.

Re: Wish me luck
Thanks for the thoughts. Doc says there was a lot more damage than he expected but that the procedure went well. I feel about as good as can be expected after only 3 days but am walking around comfortably. Now if only getting in and out of bed was easier..... That emoticon is pretty much what my face looks like getting out of bed...

Glad to hear that the procedure went well. So, what is the timetable? Did it change, because there was more damage?Tim C wrote:Thanks for the thoughts. Re: Wish me luck
Hopefully your healing will be uncomplicated. Please be careful in your recovery. I have known many people that end up with multiple back surgeries since it is an area with so much motion and flexibility. Hopefully you will be one who beats the odds.

Re: Wish me luck
Glad the surgery is behind you and sorry you had to go through so much. Take care, do what the doctor says. I'm guessing you'll be going into physical therapy pretty soon. I have to say, I'm glad I stuck with PT. It's really brought be back to running much faster than the doctor or anyone else expected.

Thanks for the thoughts.
Quick update - I feel fantastic! Surgery was 3 weeks ago today and I have zero pain. Doc turned me loose on the elliptical, which I despise, but it was nice to get a sweat going. I'm walking at least 2 miles a day and cannot wait to see him again on 11/15, at which time he said I should be able to start back running.
Amazing how the body heals. 2 weeks ago I could barely get in or out of bed and today I feel as good as new. It's hard to get excited about having back surgery, especially with no guarantees, but I'm a happy camper as the leg pain that was killing me for months is gone.....
