Summer running hats?
I'm trying to find a hat that will offer some sun protection while keeping my head relatively cool. I have a cap that I use for running when it's cold and rainy, but it's cotton and traps so much heat that my head feels like it's cooking even at relatively mild temperatures.
I'd much rather go hatless, but that's not such a great option when you're out there under direct sun for hours... and mixing sunscreen in with the hair doesn't seem like a winning idea, either.
Does anybody have suggestions?

Re: Summer running hats?
I almost always wear a hat if running during daylight hours (mostly bald, and susceptible to basal cell).
Having said that, I'm not picky - any decent wicking running cap will do. Nike makes some really nice ones. I started with white, figuring it would help with the sun/heat, but have other colors, and haven't seen a noticeable difference (though I don't have any really dark colors).

Brooks makes a couple of mesh hats that help keep the head cool while reflecting the sun. One of them, the HVAC Infiniti also has the antimicrobial headband.

REI has a drape hat that I purchased for $35, last year. It's done well, is white, and is polyester. I'll try to find the exact make and model, when I get home.

I always wear a hat to shade my face and eyes. Current hat is a Nike Featherlight (white). Previous was a Sugoi. Like them both. Hint...wash it often or it may begin to stink!

Found the link from REI: http://www.rei.com/product/721671/outdoor-research-sun-runner-cap
A non-cap covering could be from Sweatvac.com. The skull cap or beanie styles are in many colors or designs and are less than $20. I have a couple white skull caps specifically for the sun. I like the fact that I can slip it into my shorts, when I don't need it, as the visor part of a hat isn't very portable. http://www.sweatvac.com/pattern-stubby-products-24.php?page_id=61

Best hat I have ever found: http://www.runningwarehouse.com/descpage-BRMRUNC.html
I've gone through about six of these the past six or seven years. Best part about the mesh in the summer is that when you soak it in a stream, lake, etc. it will stay wet and cool for much longer than one of the fancy nylon hats nowadays.

A few other options to consider:
1) http://www.runningwarehouse.com/descpage-NFBTNH3.html#
I almost bought this hat many times due to the adjustability and lightness. It's the lightest hat I have ever held and with it's use of a bungy cord instead of a traditional back you can adjust it to the millimeter.
2) http://www.mountainhardwear.com/Men%27s-Quasar%E2%84%A2-Running-Cap/OM5305,default,pd.html
Just like the Way2Cool shirt I like so much this hat uses that cooling fabric. So my assumption is that this baby would 'stay wet' just like the shirt does, longer than a traditional running hat. I think this would be really nice on those hot summer days. Note: Pearl Izumi and Columbia use this technology as well and sell hats with it.

I just got the Columbia omni freeze zero hat and love it. The cooling technology in the fabric around the headband really works! It also is a very light and breathable hat.
