8 miles...Tonight's run was the warmest/most humid run of the year. I think it actually made last night's 5 miles seem a little easier. I went to the gym after work to get in some weight training prior to my run. Just as I went to leave the gym I checked the temps and was regretting the 94 with a heat index of 102. As I made for the door, the heavens opened up out of know where and commenced to dump a heavy downpour for 10 minutes straight. I had no idea that there was even a chance for rain today. So, I waited it out and the temps actually dropped to about 83. Of course, I think the rain was a bad thing, as the sun came out and the humidity went from 41% to like 75%. The thermometer started to climb rapidly, so I knew that I needed to get running asap.
Like yesterday, I didn't want to overdue it and took it easy as I ran through the wall of hot moist air. I was literally drenched after the first mile. I ended up having to ring out my singlet every 1.5 miles or so, because it would become so heavy with sweat. I gritted out the heat and humidity and finished 8.55 miles at a 7:54 pace. I literally looked like I had stepped out of a pool when I finished the run.
The heat is supposed to lift Friday afternoon and the weekend is supposed to be nicer. The heat advisory runs until 7pm on Friday. Hopefully it cools down just in time for my long weekend runs...

5 miles...Pretty much a carbon copy of Tuesday, except for the 15 mph warm breeze (93 degrees with a heat index of 98). Definitely better than yesterday. I still took it pretty easy, as I didn't want to overheat. Heatstroke sucks...I completed 5.25 miles at a little faster pace of 7:48 per mile. Tomorrow is a well deserved off day, after three warm days of running. Also the heat is supposed to break tomorrow afternoon, so that's even better...

"Heatstroke sucks." Amen to that!
Glad your heat is going to break - we have to wait until tomorrow night.

Scheduled Off Day... A well deserved scheduled off day, as the last three days have been brutal training weather days. Not to mention that this week is a step up week in the training.
Heading to Milwaukee for the first post All-Star Break baseball game

8 Miles...I never thought that I would say that 62 degrees ever felt so nice, except for this morning. Especially since it was over 30 degrees cooler than when I ran Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I got in a nice and easy 8 mile run as I prepare for tomorrow's 17 miles. Completed 8.36 miles at a 7:53 pace.
Now it is time to hit the links, as I have to break in my new driver...Yay for me

The new driver must be pure gold as I shot under 100 for the first time in years. Now I need to take a nap and rest up for tomorrow's 17 miler...

Cross-training...Hit up the gym after work for some weight training. Tonight was also supposed to be our softball league championship game, but we got rained out. That means we'll have to hoist the trophy next week!!

Good running Nick - it sounds funny to me that you guys have actually been hotter recently than we have in South Georgia. That was a good long run.

Thanks!! It's is supposed to be cooler this week and the lows next weekend are supposed to be in the 50s. Sounds like a recipe for some good runs if you ask me.

Re: Redemption: 2013 Hamilton Road2Hope Marathon
Ugh, yesterday I woke up completely congested and with a cough. Plus, my head felt foggy. I am glad that I did not feel that bad on Sunday or my 17 miles would have been not fun at all. Today I am a little bit better, but still have the darn cough.
I have never had a summer cold before. It feels kind of weird...

Hey now!! They have played a lot of the season without him, so I don't think that they are any worse off as of right now.

You're right, the Brewers couldn't be a whole lot worse than they are right now!

5 miles...An extremely fun 5 mile run...not. The weather almost felt fall like with a cool breeze and temps in the mid 70s. The problem being that this stupid cold is keeping me congested and coughing. I labored through the 5 miles coughing every now and then. Finished with 5.23 miles at a 7:48 pace. Hopefully Wednesday is better...

You are loving this aren't you? On a side note...Theo put together a pretty good deal for Garza. You got some good pieces for the future...

Ugh, aren't summer colds the worst? Sorry about that!
Same goes for the Brewers, I suppose.
But I can relate, being that the Seattle Mariners is the closest MLB team to me.

He certainly did. I really hope the medicals check out on the Ramirez kid because he could be the best of the bunch if he's healthy. They've gotten some guys in the last few deals that have a significant potential to contribute very soon and allow them to just plug a few holes (namely the freaking bullpen, ugh) and field a solid team next year.

I think they are still two years away from fielding a competitive team....but you never know.
At that time Baez and Soler should be up and ready. I mean Soler, Baez, Olt, and Rizzo...That could be pretty tough.

8 miles...Ugh...I was scheduled to run 8 tonight, but as I got going the congestion from this friggin' cold just wouldn't let me go. So I turn around short at a little over the 2.5 mile mark. My legs were definitely there, but it is hard to run when you can't take deep breaths and are coughing. I ended up finishing 5.25 miles at a 7:55 pace. It's disappointing, because the weather has finally broke and I know I could get some quality miles in. Currently popping more meds and trying to get some rest.

5 miles...Another, another day with a summer cold. I think that I am starting to get a little better, but I still have some congestion and coughing. I tried a little trick that I had used once when I ran a race with a cold. I took a couple cough drops to suck on while I ran today. Not sure if it helped or not, but I completed 5.26 miles at a 7:49 pace. Tomorrow is a scheduled off day, in which I will hopefully use to get closer to normal for the big weekend ahead.

Scheduled Off Day...I am definitely going to take advantage of the off day. I think that I am starting to feel better. I still have a cough, but the congestion is much less. I am hoping that some bedtime after work will do the trick and I will feel like a new man on Saturday morning. This of course is wishful thinking, but a guy can dream, right??

Be a man, take a shot of whiskey with some honey in it, and quit yer whining!
Seriously, a little whiskey or scotch warmed just a little with some honey in it does work wonders for loosening up crap in your chest. I know you abstain from alcohol while training, but I think you might be surprised at how well this works. My GF didn't believe me until she tried it last fall and felt like a million bucks the next day.

Notice any affects of the iron yet? I can usually tell a day or so after I start back as it will lift my energy level that much. Of course, I know that I am used to what the feeling is, so I can tell. Hope you get rid of that cough - an early night just might do the trick!
