Derp! It just hit me, two hours in to a three-hour run. Sorry, Whitney! Embarassed

(It took me 24 days to get Mike's comment. Geez, am I slow on the uptake or what?)

Well, I signed up for my first 50. It's all going down at the White River 50 this July. The course consists of 50 'rollling' miles in the shadows of Mt. Rainier. 17,400ft of elevation change (8,700ft. of gain and loss)!

This one is going to hurt - hopefully in a good way Wink

Wow. Let me introduce you to my good friend from Auburn, Mr. Training Hill Loop. 4.5mi loop, ~1k' gain/loss (in 1mi/2.5mi, respectively). You'll thank me on race day Smile

How was Mountain Mist this year Ben? I hear muddy and more muddy.

Riddles' winning time of 3:36 is just sick!!!

I was trying to figure what that same time would represent at JFK 50--probably under 6 hours.

Isn't he the JFK record holder? He ran it in 5:45 this year or actually Nov of last year.

BTW, my buddy Scott was just a few minutes behind him in second.

Mike, I head to Roseville Tuesday. I'm thinking of staying in Tahoe the weekend of Feb 15-17. Or maybe Auburn area to run the tail end of WS course. Whaddya think? You ready to join for a few miles?

It was the hardest thing I've ever done. I forgot how difficult and relentless the rocks were. I ran with Riddle for the first mile. He is an animal, that is the most impressive thing I've ever witnessed in person. To average 7 min pace on that course with the rocks, mud and climbs is unbelievable. People won't understand unless you have run those trails. He was pushed until waterline this year, some young gun was with him until Waterline. The second place guy is only 23 and has been running ultras since he was 19. Look out.

As for me I was in 20-22nd place until the climb up waterline. Sub 5 hour pace too I think. Then I died. I made it up waterline and had little left. The last 10k was 'run'/walk. I had to hike the entire last climb from 28-29. And even had to hike some of the remaining tech downhills. It was ugly. Fell hard at mile 30 too after completely cramping up. Finished in 35th in 5:27. I can still feel the effort today in my legs and its been five days. Yikes!

Max King beat Riddles JFK record this year. But yeah, Riddle has both courses dialed in.

You know that Scott guy? He's a threat for the future for sure!

Yes, Scott is a good friend of ours and he's a great guy. Did you get a chance to talk to him?

I think that'd be awesome, and I'm ready to join in - not sure what your pace is, though - but I'll be out of town that weekend. So we'll have to choose another time. What a Face

"People won't understand unless you have run those trails." I don't doubt that at all! Nice job on the 50k. I'm so jealous of your location. SO jealous ------> green with envy alien

Well, when he ran 3:42 at MM he went on to run 5:45 at JFK. Now that he ran 3:36 I wonder if he can take a crack at Max King's 5:34 at JFK from last year?

That's crazy btw, King AVERAGED 6:42 pace.

I did a little bit after the race. I happened to be in the elevator with bow he and Riddle. When I asked him how the race went (not knowing he finished 2nd at the time or who he was) he casually said as good as it could have. He made no mention to finishing 2nd and almost breaking the old course record. Humble guy. Excited to see what he can do in the future.
