Well, since it is a week after CB and you will have run a PR there, you can "pace" me to a 3:45 in Boston. Should be a piece of cake for you
Tempting and if CB10 beats me up too badly maybe I'll do that but I need a sub 3:25 (just went up 10 mins from 3:15 for me) to punch my ticket again for 2014 so I was thinking I would just do that as my mimimal Boston goal this year. But I'm in for CB10 and looking forward to it!

I was so teasing and I wish I could run 3:25 again, but I just need sub-4 and I hope that I am back to full strength by then.
Re: 2013 Goals
Well, let's see:
1. I need to get healthy yet again
2. Run shorter races the first half of the year. Looking for a sub 20 5k and maybe a sub 1:10 10 mile.
3. Assuming health, shoot for a sub 3:15 marathon in the fall. Who wants to promise me good weather for Chicago this year?

Here's what the schedule looks like so far.
50k in February
60k in March
50 Miler in April
HIM during the summer
50 Miler or Marathon in the fall
Surely there will be a number of sprint triathlons and shorter running races throughout the year.

Or he's suffering from early taper madness. He starts tapering in four weeks. I think it's a bit of both.

Early March. My workouts indicate I might be ready to do it. So I'm pretty anxious to get going. I've got four more weeks of hard training followed by a three week taper.
I'm doing a modified Hal Higdon Advanced II. I extended the 18 week plan to 22 weeks. And I've added 20 miles to each week. I've also extended the 800's to give me 10 x 800 at the end (Yasso pace). This week I did 8 x 800 at an average of 2:58.

Albany, GA. Supposed to be very flat like Chicago.
It's the exact same 22 week plan I used to get my BQ in 2006 Chicago. The only difference this time is I've added 20 MPW and of course, I've adjusted the paces accordingly.
Say what you will about Hal Higdon, but his plans do work.

I'll top out at 76 miles the last week before the taper. Over the summer, I just ran lots of miles without speedwork. A few weeks I hit 80. So mentally, I'm used to the mileage.

Hey Stan, it looks like your sub 3 is definitely possible. How are your pace runs going? The plan that you're following looks very similar to the ones that I've followed over the past couple years. It's worked for me and will for you too.

Re: 2013 Goals
Funny you should ask. I'm headed to the track for a 10-mile pace run right now. I do them on the track so I get that constant feedback about my pace with every split. This works well since the race will be flat and I can get a really good feel. I even practice drinking every 2 miles and still stay on pace. It's my race-simulation workout.T Miller wrote:ssilvert wrote:Julie wrote:I'm impressed you took an advanced program and added 20 MPW to it. What range of miles are you doing, Stan?

With adding weeks to the program, I'll do pace runs up to 12 miles instead of 10. All of them so far have been very good. It's a workout I look forward to.

Runners make runners run faster. Stan, with your talent, any program will do. Tim just can't afford to being kicked by Wendy.

Stan - looks like all systems are GO! Daughter Chelsea ran Albany last yr and thought it was great. She was injured at the time but thinks it can be a really fast track. John lives near there, perhaps he can come and offer moral support!!

So, how'd we all do? (2013 goals)
Found this thread. How'd you do meeting the goals you laid out here?

Well, I missed the 50k in February because of a scheduling conflict.
I PR'ed the 60k in March
I ran my first 50 miler in April on a flooded course.
I skipped the HIM during the summer but I did do a couple triathlons and made the podium (3rd) on one.
Ran 2 marathons as training runs while building up for JFK 50 (3:21 and 3:14)
Ran JFK 50 in 8:06

Re: 2013 Goals
Didn't do to badly here. I did maintain my weight, ran the half marathons but skipped CB (which was a good idea), ran Boston but knew I wasn't at sub-4 fitness and we all know what happened. Did a fair amount of cycling in CLE as soon as the snow stopped flying in May and then through the summer. Ran a 3:50 at Indy, so accomplished that. Only ran 1726 miles but I did take a 3-wk non-running hiatus in early June for a trip to Italy.Michele \"1L" Keane wrote:Fitness goals are always good, Mike, and I think many of us have them as well. My "fitness" goals for 2013 are as follows:
1) Maintain my weight where it is today at 120-122 lbs.
2) Work to stay injury free.
3) Enjoy and embrace my new fitness class that starts next Monday (@ 5:50 am!) to get back some of my lost overall core strength and fitness
4) Follow my current running schedule which includes a half marathon at the end of February, one in mid-March, and the CB 10 miler in order to run a very comfortable, sub-4 at Boston. And enjoy it.
5) Start cycling in the Spring when the weather gets back to normal in order to enjoy a mix in the summer (cycling and running)
6) Race a faster marathon in the fall. Location to be determined (and it might be in the later summer)
7) Look to run between 1800-2000 miles
Overall, be healthy and happy.

Completely forgot about this thread. Thanks Mark!Glenn wrote:1. Run at least 100 miles per month (keeping streak alive since March 2007).
2. Finish two marathons (Ogden will be first. Fall marathon undecided - considering Philly and St. George)

4. Double-secret goal - finally break 4 hours.
I did pretty well: (1) Yes. (2) Yes, and actually ran a third (Richmond); (3) No - ran all three at about 175; (4) Yes - St. George - 3:56:44!
