Re: Your Week in Training Nov 12 - 18
week three of R2B recovery:
Mon - ran 5 in Germany
Tue - 5 more in Germany
Wed - 7 with 8 strides back home
Thu - off
Fri - 4 w/ 1 mile @ 5k
Sat - 5 miles
Sun - 10 miles
Total 36 miles
Am really fighting a left knee injury suffered somehow in the R2B. Am following the ice/ibuprofen regimen and have been running fewer miles due to recovery schedule - but its stubborn. Can run about 3-5 miles and then it kicks in. Can be almost to the point I have to walk home. But each week it seems like I can go one more mile before it hurts. Outside of left knee.

Old Man is right!! But now I want to go sub 2:55. Yes I'm greedy, but I figure PRs are only in my future for a short time. Am toying with the idea of running the USATF Masters Marathon Nationals next fall. If I can knock off another 5 - 8 minutes I might be competitive. I realize that's a ton of time - but hey - you never try you never know.
Shuey - good idea on IT band. Will start foam roller tonight.

First off your not greedy and if you want that sub 2:55 than go get it!! 110% buddy there is nothing short in time for getting a PR only the mind to tell us that it is short!!! I love your energy and don't you ever let that go!! Don't sweat the small stuff and everything is small!!!
Second don't forgot to get that foam roller up near your lower back. Lot's of people just think of the ITB along the side of the leg. For me once I paid attention to the my butt area and up near the lower back I was able to resolve my ITB problems!

Well, I didn't get hit by a truck. Just feel like it.Julie wrote:Kevin I hope you have a good recovery, congrats on the 50 miler! That is awesome.
I had forgotten just how disabled I am and for how long after this race. I've been walking with crutches since Sunday and am on prescription strength anti-inflammatories. Today I may walk without crutches. But I'll be on stiff NSAIDs for a few weeks, do rehab exercises and will not run for a month or so. This is the near-term price I pay for running more than 4 hours on a right ankle/heel joint that was badly fractured in a fall about 35 years ago. The longer-term price is unknown. But it will likely hasten the onset of arthritis in that fractured sub-talar joint. Price to high you say? I would have to agree.
Knowing this would likely be my last JFK 50 Mile, I pledged to take the AT real easy and cruise the C&O towpath. But for several reasons that will be featured in my report, I was toast by Antietam Aquaduct [27.1 miles]. I'm pleased to have finished and look forward to participating in future JFK 50 Mile races as crew/pacer.

I saw your name listed in the results. Trent told me last week he would get me in, but I wasn't trained...I guess I could have joined the others that had not trained. I guess I can not train for next year.

You cannot train for it anyway. Besides, running is stupid.
