An easy 6 to round out the schedule for the first week. I finished 6.22 miles at a 7:49 pace, giving me 35.00 (huh, even)for the week. One down, 20 to go!!!

Four miles tonight on a hot and humid day. 94 degrees as I started out for my run this afternoon. It really wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but I did sweat a ton I completed 4.21 miles at a 7:35 pace. So, the temperature didn't really affect my results.

6 miles...The weather today was a carbon copy of yesterday at 94 degrees when I started my run. My run, on the other hand, was six instead of four. That being said, I wanted to make sure that I slowed things down a bit to compensate for the heat. I completed 6.23 miles at a 7:44 pace. The heat actually was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Although I do know that I would not want to run 15 miles in it.

6 miles...Beautiful morning for a run!! I completed a six mile fartlek this morning. The fartlek is one of my favorite training runs, as it is challenging, yet fun at the same time. I finished 6.27 miles at a 7:15 pace. One mile warmup at 8:00 pace, followed by miles of 7:06, 6:48, 7:01, 6:52, and finished with an 8:00 cool down. 15 mile LSD tomorrow...

15 mile LSD. Up and at it this morning to put in my LSD. Beautiful morning for a run, that was not too warm and overcast. I completed 15.28 miles at an easy 7:50 pace. My average HR finished at 140, which is right in my honey zone (with a max of 185). One thing that I have found this year (both spring and marathon training) is that it is taking me a little longer than usual for my legs to get warmed up. In the past, including last year, I was always able to start out at or near my goal run pace. This year I am noticing that it is taking me 1.5 to 2 miles for my legs to wake up and get up to goal run pace. I am going to attribute it to getting a little older, but was wondering if others take a while to get warmed up to get to goal run pace...
36.21 miles for the week

Re: 21 Weeks to a BQ
When I did pace runs it did take me about 2 miles and those 2 miles felt difficult enough but then yes it was manageable to lock in goal pace. I will never use easy and 7:xx pace in the same phrase, but nicely done!

Re: 21 Weeks to a BQ
Just caught up on your blog: I wish you the best for a cool and fast marathon. You deserve one! I echo Chris' sentiments too. Take it easy on your easy runs. It may not be an issue now, but as your mileage increases, your body will need the recovery pace.
Very solid 15 mile long run, though.

Thanks Dave!! I am making "Conservation" the motto for this training cycle. With the increase and mileage and adding two weeks to my schedule, it is going to be key to not overdue it, especially early. The challenge is to keep telling myself that

4 miles - Up at at it early this morning for my four mile training run. My work schedule this week is making me change up the routine and is a real challenge to my running schedule. This week is our client symposium, called "Healthshare." We have over 115 clients in this week to attend our seminar and my schedule is slammed with 14 hour days, lunches, and dinner parties. But, I got my run in this morning I completed 4.25 miles at a 7:36 pace on a nice morning...Now I'm off to work!!!!

4 miles - Four miles this afternoon on another hot ang humid day. It looks like this summer is going to be a carbon copy of last year's. I completed a sweaty 4.27 miles with an average pace of 7:28 per mile. Stepback 12 mile LSD tomorrow morning...
Happy Birthday Dad!!!

12 mile LSD - Easy 12 miles this morning. The air was cooler than earlier this week, but definitely heavy. With this being my first stepback week, I wanted to stay with my theme of conservation. I ended up with another sweaty run that totaled 12.36 miles at a 7:50 pace. My average HR was at a cool 140. It was defintiely a trying week for me with my work schedule and the warm weather, but I made it through (thanks god it was a stepback week). Seven miles tomorrow, before a jump in mileage next week.
