USATF 10k Masters Championship - (updated - looking for some help)
I see that they have this race in Ann Arbor, which is about 45 min from my house. It hasn't had the highest level of participation the past couple of years. I don't know anything about "Masters Championships". Can anyone fill me in on this?

Real nice race. Part of the Dexter-AnnArbor Run. I believe there is a HM and 5K also. I ran it in 2010 and was fortunate to win the 50-54 AG. It's an out & back course with a couple of rolling hills. The last 600 is a pretty good uphill. Highly recommended!
As far as the USATF Champs part...You can either enter just the DAA 10K or the USATF Masters Champs. To run the Championships you need to have a USATF Membership. We also started a few minutes before the other 10K race so it's kind of a separate race.

Thanks for the feedback Dave. I think I could be in the top 5 or so depending upon who shows up, so I think I'll give it a go. It will only be a couple of weeks after a marathon so that might make a difference too. What is the USATF Masters Champ thing. Does it mean anything? - don't mean to imply a degredation of your win in 2010, just trying to figure this out.

The USATF holds championship races from 5K thru the Marathon throughout the year. Anyone with a USATF membership can enter. The 5K champs seem to be most competitive with runners from all over the country as are the Cross County Club Champs in December. All the other races usually pulls in top runners from across the country. I can assure you, it's very cool to win! Top 3 in each AG get a sweet USATF medal, AG winners and Top 10 Age Graded usually get some $$$, and you are a National Champion! So in 2 weeks, I'll be shooting for a 25K championship in Grand Rapids, to go along with my 5 & 10K wins. Check the calendar here http://usatf.org/Events---Calendar/National-Championships.aspx

thanks for the feedback Dave. Sounds cool.
Dang, I wish I knew about this earlier. I might have really focused on this thing to try and get a top 3. Winning no chance, but top 3 on a good day and only slow runners show up -- maybe.

The USATF championships races are awesome. I've the 15km (Gate River Run in Jacksonville), the Club XC (in Lexington the year we did it as a team) and the individual XC (in St. Louis). The half marathon and 10 mile champs are very big draws as well.

Am planning on signing up for this. 10 days away. As you guys know I just ran that hot marathon last Sunday. So far I've taken Mon and Tue off. Ran easy 4 yesterday. Do you 10k specialists have any recommendations on what I should do over the next 10 days to give myself the best shot? I know a perfect race isn't in the cards due to the marathon, but I might as well set myself up for the best possible outcome. Race is Sun June 3.

I don't know...how bad did the hot weather marathon screw you up? Some people need a month to recover from a tough effort, some can come back sooner. I'm pretty sure there's nothing you can do at this point to improve your fitness, but you can really mess things up by doing too much.
I think I'd continue recovery mode. Maybe throw in a few short on/offs or some post run strides early next week and hope for the best in the 10K.
I'm running a HM on May 26 then Sunburst 10K on June 2. Won't do much but a lite workout on Tuesday with the other days easy running.

Actually the race didn't kill me. Feel pretty good. A little soreness and fatigue. Since it was flat my quads are fine. I agree I can't improve my fitness, just looking to find a little speed and faster turnover guess.

I'd have agree with Dave, don't do too much. You just proved by that great marathon time that you are fit. Keep recovering and just stay loose with easy stuff, some tune up strides and use the carry-over fitness.
