So what would one find to be the best way get themselves out of a running funk and of being unmotivated? Well I can come up with three things!

1. Get 2 1/2 hours of sleep and then meet a good friend at his hotel and then go out for a tempo run on hot humidity morning in the early spring in Chicago when your not use to it!

2. Go out on a cold windy day on the Chicago lake front and run 20 miles at good solid pace. Then get up the next day and find out that you just discovered a gem of a trail system that is about 50 miles long with multitrack and single track and nothing but up and down rolling hills in one's backyard (well relatively speaking only 30 min drive from downtown.) And then go there for the first time an knock out a solid effort on these trails by running a little over 13 miles.

3. Read the article in this months runner's world about a women who use to way 207 pounds, has 12 kids which three of them have health issues which keeps her up most of the night. Still with that she goes out and runs at 5am. In return for her efforts she losses something like 67 pounds goes from being a 4:20 marathoner to BQ for Boston and is now shooting for a sub 3:10 in Boston this year.

Now to me if these things can't get me motivated then I don't know what well, so I will add two more for good measure:

1. Even though I run by effort on race day, I'm going to train for a sub 2:40 for Chicago 2012!

2. Remember my goal of training for breaking 7 hours at JFK this coming November.

And at the same time working at night and becoming a dad! Can it be done only time will tell and nothing like having goals and a big challenge. Might as well reach for the moon and smack into the stars! Might is Well Might is Well, never had such a good time in my life before!

I figured I would post the elevation and grade of my new found running paradise close to home. And there is so much more there to checkout!!!

I read the same article - pretty impressive stuff with the running mom! I'm not on facebook so you will have to tell Lisa hello and I'm thinking about the both of you. 2:40/7:00 are some pretty lofty goals, but it would be awesome to scare or eclipse both of them. I love your running story and it is one of the ones I keep it in the back of my mind for motivation. A couple of those hills in there look brutal! I laugh thinking about running and a kid - my son could actually care less if I've been running or not - if I'm home it is time to play! I remember coming home from 20 milers or a long bike ride and as soon as he sees me he wants to jump on the trampoline. I try to oblige, but sometimes I don't have much gusto! I try to play the let's stay still for a couple of minutes, but that usually lasts <5 seconds! Good times ahead my friend!

is the trail that you found in the southwest suburbs around Palos (around Lagrange & 95th)? I love that trail. Let me know when you head out that way and I'll meet you for a run!

Day 1 down! It got really cold last night in the low 20's and that carried over to this morning, even when I got done still was in the 30's.

Randy from running fit puts on great event. I highly recommend doing his trail races here at Pinckney! Today was tough due to running the Potto in reverse nice far challenging course!

So since this was my 1st trail half automatic PR! No don't that racing on a technical course is different from road racing. Anyway bottom line very happy with my run 1:41 22nd overall 4th AG. Not bad for no taper and 12 days after Boston.

Next up 50k tomorrow morning!

Good luck tomorrow. Was the trail dry? If it was, I bet it was a great run and I'll have to consider it in the future. I once ran way too many miles on the Potto trail after getting lost at DWD. It is indeed hilly, but if dry, awesome.

Yep in the mail! How about yours???

Alright I have made a promise to myself that not only do I want to but I will be posting more regular to my blog! I feel that I have a lot to share not only with all of you but with myself. I plan on doing an update about my last weekend training/races on the Potto which I must add that I learned a lot about myself and running in general. I really look forward to the future but what the future has in store for me is up to me to do the things I need to do rather then just talk about wanting to do them!

Well I didn't realize when this journey started how much it would really mean to me. I had all the best attentions to keep up this blog and to keep everyone informed but with managing an Asian shift at night at work and learn a whole new client and culture, taking care of such a wonderful wife and still trying to train I found it to be such a huge balancing act. I have learned many lessons over the last 9 months and early this morning the one journey ended and a new one has just begun for Lisa and myself.

I can't express in words what emotions and feelings have felt in the last 13 hours!! It has been the most incredible, exciting, special and fantastic feeling I have ever felt in my life. I look at my wife in such a different light and with a renew found respect, I can say with 100% certainty that Lisa Ann is my hero! The determination and courage and heart she showed last night was AWESOME to say the least!!!

At 3:28am cst Lisa gave birth to our first child Kristina August Schumacher 7lbs 11oz and 21 inches long. I must add she is all legs!!
