If we have wind out of the NW, it will be a headwind mostly in the second half (we start out with a little loop, then head south starting at about 2 or 2.5, I think, and turn back north at about 7.5). Most of that leg would be back into a wind out of the NW.

As long as the road doesn't "rise up to meet" me too much - I'm tired of hills!

Good thing it's not this morning. It's really windy out there, at least up where I am.

OK Mr. 639, I'll be on the lookout for you!

I'll probably wear that bright blue Nike hat that I have on in my avatar.

I'll be wearing a grey and red hat. Its the one I had on down the Cape not that I would expect you to remember that. I have no idea what top I'll be wearing until I get down there. Looking forward to the race.

Nice rest day today after yesterday's half.
Was interesting to read the comments by other runners at Active's site about the race. I was happy to see that I was not alone in my confusion at the 10 mile marker - seems it was marked well past where we actually hit 10 miles. That explains why the split time I heard was so far off what I expected, I think.
Anyway, looks like a tough schedule this week to get in my last peak week. We'll see how it goes. If too many runs get impacted, maybe I'll switch back to a two week taper instead of the three week taper I'd built into the schedule.

Managed to get the first 10 miler of the mid-week in tonight at the track. 40 laps in lane 2 at an average of 9:14. All systems go. Does make for kind of a late night, though.

Let's see if I can do that again tomorrow, since Thurs/Fri I will be traveling.

I can't even imagine 10M on a track. Great job getting it done.

Did you notice from the race thank you email it said the company would have the pictures ready to order by today. I clicked on the link to their site and it doesn't even acknowledge that they even did the race.

I used to carry a little league pitch counter and click off laps. Now I just wear the garmin - it's close enough that I can always tell which lap I'm on!

10 more tonight on the mill, at 9:06. Now tired, but feeling good. Lots of sweat with that one. I'm doing a three week Hal-style taper this round, so I have just two more runs until taper starts on Sunday. Hoo ha!

Thanks Alex!
Ran the last 20 on the training schedule for this cycle. Nice day for it. Cloudy, cool, no breeze. Sprinkled a little in the last 5 miles. This was a very typical 20 for me, and I didn't try to do anything special other than get it done. Splits and elevation below. The elevation is deceiving - I think to be more accurate you'd have to smooth out all those little spikes - it's not hilly like that, but the overall curve looks correct.
The two 10:00+ minute splits were when I stopped back at the car to hydrate, eat gel, pee, etc.
I stopped to pee 4 or 5 times (3 times in the first hour). I must have had too much coffee this morning!
I was hitting the splits manually (I forgot to put it back on autolap), and goofed it up at the beginning (when I first realized I needed to hit the button because I'd forgotten) and at the end (I guess I hit the lap button instead of the stop button, and then was doing my cool down and reading the splits before turning it off).
Run went well and was a good way to finish off the long runs. 10 tomorrow and I will be at the taper. My right ITB says it's none too soon!

Ran the 10 today as planned, averaging 9:28, which was fine. I felt tired, and was happy to be at the taper. Beautiful day for it here. No problems.
Race is three weeks out. Only real niggle is the ITB on the right. Should be fine with the easing up and a little TLC.

Well, I haven't been enjoying the taper as much as I'd hoped. Caught some virus from my youngest, and have been a bit sick all week. That on top of a lot of scheduling difficulty had me missing my midweek runs. Oh, well, nothing to be done about that except to rest up and try to get well.
I am still not great. Sore throat, congestion, feel tired. Doc pretty much said to stop whining and take a zyrtec and an ibuprofen, so I've done those things. Still hanging on, but it wasn't enough to deter me from a run on this beautiful morning.
Got out for 12 miles real easy (averaged 9:39). Legs felt a little tired. Just need to get some miles in. Warm and sunny, but not too warm.
Funny thing - I was delayed from starting my run this morning by - wait for it - A road race! I completely forgot that they were having this 5.5 mile race today, and it uses part of the trail I run on frequently. It is quite hilly. I had no desire to run the hills, so did not take up the race volunteer's offer to have me run the race, since I was sitting there in the car, idling and waiting for them to clear the road. It was fun to watch the race from the very back. I always joke that I never take a wrong turn on the course - I just follow the second to the last person. But that's what I was looking at today, and it was kind of fun to see who is ALL THE WAY in the back. Whatever, they were out there getting it done.
Of course tomorrow is mother's day and I've got nothing. I like to tell my wife that she's not my mother, and leave it up to the kids, but that doesn't really work! I'll figure out something...

Hope you start to feel better, just have faith that everything will come together for race day.

Still laughing at the mother day comment about leaving it up to the kids! I guess this is what I get to look forward to in the near future!

I'm sure you'll get Lisa a card, but one of my big hits 20 mothers days ago (when my wife was pregnant with our first child) was the "Almost Mother's Day" card I made her. Wish I could dredge up a copy of that!

Still not 100% today, though I do feel now like it is getting better, and that the run yesterday wasn't a bad idea. Maybe it helped somehow!
So, out for another 8 on Mother's Day morning. Nice and easy. Beautiful day here - it's now 80 and sunny, with a nice breeze. Was a good day to run slow, and so I did, averaging 9:27 per.
If you have a Mom, give her a hug! Mines been gone almost six years now, and I wish I had her here with me.

Better you got the sickness out of the way now as opposed to two weeks from now. You've done the training so you didn't lose anything. I'm sure you've been drinking plenty of fluids.

Yup, I'm good with the fluids! The decongestants would leave me way too dry otherwise.
