Blast from the Past (1984)

Post  fostever on Sun Jan 01, 2012 12:37 am

[img][/img]Here's some pics of some familiar faces from a race I competed in during the fall of 1984 at Hamilton Lakes business complex Itasca, IL. Can you name the celebs? One is a retired NFL player. One looks like he is flipping off the crowd, but I'm sure he's not since he'd have to be double jointed or something.

Any other pics? I was at this race on this day...and have Alison Roes autograph to prove it.
I opted NOT to attend the Simon And Garfunkel show at the old Comisky Park that day (or was it the night before?) and ran the Crain's Challenge instead. STUPID ME!

Right you are, Those were the easy ones. Now the NFL star is a little harder. Hint: played for the Vikings and the Bears and is in the Hall of fame.

Yes some other pics, I'll post later. Oh by the way, I'm the young lad in the white outfit in the first pic. This was just before I put my running on hold for 23 years or so. Jim Ryun also made an appearance.

The NFL great is easy! Another hint for you folks he also has a law degree and if I'm not mistaken he is also an associate justice on the Minnesota Supreme Court!

One best to ever play the game!!

Easy with Schuey's hints. Alan Page! But he looks so thin in the picture....wow, I didn't know he was a runner.

Yesss! Alan Page one of the best. One of the Purple People eaters. Four trips to the Superbowl, but no wins.

Not sure what the trophy was for. Definitely one individual trophy was for my buddy Pete who was fast and one maybe for the corporate team. I was definitely not training much at the time. haha except for the 16 oz curls and stuff.

When you click host an image there is a drop down to resize image and then there are 640 or 320 Px widths to choose from. So that was the Crains Challenge. Guess you didn't see yourself in any of the pics?

Sorry, it was from an iPhone and I couldn't see any better than that. Besides, I was too young back then (sigh - actually 22).

Nope, I was hoping that I would be, but no such luck! Thanks for sharing!

Another piece of info about Alan Page. Every year he shows up around mile 2-3 on the Twin Cities Marathon course and plays his tuba for the runners...at least he did in 2009 and I was told he does it every year.
