Forced to taper early due to legs feeling really beat up, but at least no injuries to speak of. (Thank you Jesus!)
4+ weeks of tapering should get me to the starting line ready,... I'm praying.

Sorry to read about the beat up legs Dave, but it looks like you're training went really well having finished up with some high mileage and good speedwork. No doubt you'll have fresh legs with a four week taper.

My training was going well until I hit that 70 mile week 5 weeks ago. I've been tapering & trying to recover ever since, but it doesn't seem I'm able to back off the mileage enough. It's a tricky line between over-training & too much recovery before a marathon. My weeks since that 70 have been 45, 50, 40, 23, & now it looks like 18 for this week if I do 8 on Saturday (1 week before race day.) For the past 5 weeks I've been dealing with dead/ beat-up legs. I'm almost ready to go to zero running, but I've read so much on how important it is to do some running in order to recover optimally. Ugh, this is frustrating.

Be careful with zero running during taper. I tried that (for too long - the whole three weeks!) back in 2009 in Hartford, and I cratered badly (DNF).
Just take it nice and easy, and you'll do fine.

Your lead-up work is over. Run well and enjoy the day tomorrow, whatever it brings. Just do your best and you are a the man!
